The fruit in my fruit salad tastes carbonated! What?

What does this mean? Is the fruit unsafe to eat? Thanks!

My guess (not the best chemistry student) is that the acids in the fruit are reacting with something else in your salad.
Reply:It means, you must have a lot of time on your hands just to ask such a pointless question!!

If you don't like it...chuck it!!!
Reply:Definitely fermented. Close to spoiling.
Reply:some of it has fermented
Reply:How fun! Just enjoy it. If it's not rotting and brown, it's safe to eat.
Reply:my fruit sometimes does that too!

like the melon feels like there's sprite on it when it touches my tongue.

ive always just thought it was the preservative or something

=D
Reply:How old is your fruit salad? It may have started to ferment, making alcohol and carbon dioxide (fizzies). If it goes much longer you will probably notice a pronounced alcoholic flavor.
Reply:It has started to ferment. You should have kept it cold.

Wild Yeast in the air are producing carbon dioxide.

I'd throw it out.
Reply:It is fermenting and unless you like the flavour I wouldn't eat it. The sliced peaches on a salad bar I used to go to would get like that and eventually they stopped stocking them.

Reply:I dont know
