I am an amatuer bodybuilder. Im only 18 years old, weigh about 190 currently at 5 foot 10 inches. I usually weigh about 170-175 in the summer, and go through a pretty intense cutting up schedule and diet. I eat mainly fruit( Apples, Bannanas, Tomoatoes, Cucumbers, Oranges...etc)--low fat. I now eat a very high fat/protein diet of alot of nuts, fish, and red meat. Anyways, my question is whether my "fruit" diet is unhealthy for me, considering the high amount of sugar that I take in from fruit. I usualy do this diet for 3-4 months of the year.
Can too much fruit be bad for you?
Your fruit diet for 3-4 months of the year is very healthy as long as you also consume some protein and complex carbohydrates as well as fruit alone is insufficient. Fruit is mostly simple carbohydrates such as fructose. Complex carbohydrates inlude bread, cereals, muesli and pasta.
The sugars in fruit are mostly fructose which is OK and quite different from table sugar or sucrose. Table sugar or sucrose is dead calories and has no nutritional value of any kind. The generic term sugar means a lot more than table sugar or sucrose and includes lots of other sugars such as glucose, galactose, arabinose, xylose, fructose and maltose as well as polysaccharides such as cellulose and starch.
Reply:you want to keep your body fat low all year round especially if you train natural (no AAS). you should be consuming a matrix of carbs from veggies, low GI high fiber sources like beans, lentils, oats and barley and low GI fruits.
sugar is of no concern to the athlete with low body fat. it's physiologically impossible to have a glucose metabolism disorder and low body fat.
* I train and consult NPC %26amp; IFBB bodybuilders
Reply:well its true that fruit does have alot of sugar and therefore carbs but u must remember that its HEALTHY sugar and carbs. no one is ever gonna tell you not to eat fruit. do try to through some whole grains and vegetables into the mix tho
Reply:no
Reply:If its working then you, then why ask if its bad for you?
The only bad thing about it is the number of simple carbs your taking in that can make you retain water weight and feel bloated, other than that if its working for you its fine.
Reply:What I heard from a nutritionist is that fruits are good for you, but too much fruits are bad for your body. Eating lots of fruits is a good thing, but it also tip off your daily sugar intake. That's why there is a limit of fruits serving in the food pyramid.
