Can you grow different fruit on a fruit tree?

I heard that if you plant seeds from other fruits with a type of fruit tree you can. Do you think it's true?

Can you grow different fruit on a fruit tree?

Making a fruit glaze?

i want to make a fruity type glaze from fruit juices, i'm assuming it doesnt work the same way as wines, so how do i thicken fruit juices while still keeping the great taste?

Making a fruit glaze?
If you truely want to make a fruit glaze then you need to start with fresh fruit, not juice. Juice has been pasturized and filtered and just doesn't hold up to the process as well. What you need to do is get some of your favorite fruit or fruits, a small sauce pan, sugar, water, and if you want.. some alchohol (preferably brandy or bourbon). Take the fruit, a moderate amout of water, and alchohol (if your using it) and put them in the sauce pan. start with a low heat and bring to a simmer. Taste. If too tart add the sugar in small amounts until it tastes right for you. Continue to simmer and stir until the sauce can coat the back of the spoon nicely without just pouring off (the term for this is nappe). Once you have the sauce to the consistency that you want strain out all the seeds and pulp and return to heat. Make sure to squeeze the pulp to get all the sryup and juices out. Taste. Adjust seasonings according to your tastes. Simmer for about 5-10 min and viola you have a fresh fruit glaze to impress your friends and family. If you still wish to use fruit juices instead of fresh you will have to use Unflavored Gelatin from the store. Just follow the directions on the box for making hot glaze.
Reply:Not sure what type of fruit glaze you want?

I am a chocolate person, just chocolate! (-:

Hope these links help you!
Reply:boil down with added sugar... I am afraid that you will have to compromise with the sweeter taste
Reply:Roasted Spicy Pineapple with Passion Fruit Glaze

1 vanilla bean split

1/4 cup dark rum

1 tablespoon minced ginger

2 Thai bird chiles

1 banana, chopped

1 tablespoon passion fruit syrup (or 2 tablespoons puree)

1 tablespoon pink peppercorns, for garnish

1 ripe pineapple, peeled (Costa Rican)

Preheat an oven to 350 degrees. In a small saucepan, mix together the sugar, water and vanilla bean and cook until golden brown. Add the rum, ginger, chiles, banana, passion fruit and mix well. Allow to cool then blend in a food processor. Strain and set aside. Place pineapple in a shallow baking dish and brush on glaze. Bake for 1 1/2 hours, basting every 15 to 20 minutes. Save the warm sauce in the baking dish for plating.

its different and sounds good!
Reply:Easy. Corn starch. Mix 1 Tblsp. cornstarch with 1/2 cup cold water. Bring your fruit juices to a boil, re-stir the cornstarch mixture and add to the juices, stirring constantly. It will thicken within 2 minutes. Remove from heat at once.

Allergic to fruit?

Does anyone else get an itchy/scratchy feeling in their mouth and throat when eating fruit? What causes this? My mouth actually gets swollen when I eat some fruit. I never had this problem until after age 25 or so....

Allergic to fruit?
i don't get those symptom,s but i do get migraines if i'm anywhere within a 3 metre radius of anything with orange or orange flavouring in it. i also get really bad wind if i eat onions so i've pretty much cut them out of my diet completely i'm mildly caffeine intolerant and don't drink tea or coffee i do eat chocolate and drink certain fizzy drinks these intolerances are as a result of having vertigo sounds crazy I know but it's true. i would DEFINITELY go and get this problem checked out
Reply:this happens 2 me 2... i read that it has sumthin 2 do with the chemicals in the insecticides they use.... u might be allegic to them and it doesnt matter that u started this at 25 becuz u can develop allergies to sumthing at any time of ur life..if i want 2 eat fruit and i dont want an itchy/ scratchy throat or gums ( i hate the gums part of it) then i take some benadryl before i eat some.... this also prevents my throat from getting swollen or closing up... hope i helped/..
Reply:It can be OAS (oral allergy syndrome). It triggers by eating fruits like bananas or melons. Check this out:

Allergies can develop at any age. I started being allergic to pollen around the age of 24.
Reply:I cannot eat oranges and sometimes limes. They are too acidic. I get blisters on my tongue or canker sores or a scratchy throat. My grandmother's jaw and ear swells when she eats oranges. I did not have this prob. untill I was 27 and had my 1st child.
Reply:Yes that happens to me, it also started after I was grown. I've heard people who have hayfever can also be allergic to fruit that has the same type of pollen. I had to stop eating melons after my throat swelled. If your throat swells, you should probably stop eating it, because it can get worse each successive time.
Reply:yea... i get it when i eat watermelon or melons in general. my throat get itchy and i have to drink tons of water or run my tongue against the back of my mouth. it sucks. its been like that for a couple of years, and im 16

How are fruit/ leaves made?

I know they grow on trees and what not, but how exactly does a tree make it's fruit? Where does the stuff come from (in the trunk). How does a tree say "Hey, I don't want this __________, so let's expel it."

Same with leaves.

How does it start making it? Are the ingredients for the fruit/ leaves already in the trunk and it just starts growing on the outside?

How are fruit/ leaves made?
Well, its a long process to explain, but in short fruits are swollen and juicy wall of ovary. Female part of modern day flowering plants have the ovules covered inside leaf like ovary. After pollens have fertilized ovules it triggers enlargement of ovarian wall leading to the formation of fruit. However, there are various modifications of such a generalization.

Do you wash your fruit before you eat?

I mean fruit such as bananas and oranges, the fruit you don't eat peels...

My mother always washes before eat them, but I'd never done that until I read in the magazine "Parenting" that you should wash bananas and oranges before you eat because of a bunch of bacterias and germs on the skins.

With just fruit and veggies 800 calorie diet?
Since I started to work out I was looking for a good weight loss product. I was on a diet but I felt that I needed a little "help" so I decided to try this great product and I had fantastic results. You can check their website at

http://www.greatgiftsyes.info , they give you a free trial and you only pay 4.95$ shipping and handling.
Reply:you don't really need to worry about the calories in the vegetables since you would have to eat loads and loads to get to 800 but maybe count calories of the fruit.

this website has all the calories in different fruits and veg - http://www.caloriecounting.co.uk/resourc...

Too much fruit?

My brother has been told he has a cholestorol of 5.9 and his doctor has told him to eat more fruit and it will lower in time.

But he has asked me if you can ever eat tooo much fruit??

AND...he keeps getting told that cholesterol never lowers and his doc says thats bullsh*t.

Whats the deal ??

(NB - He doesn't smoke, drink and is a veggie etc)

Too much fruit?
That still isnt very much fruit! His diet doesnt seem very balenced or complete. Its important to get a variety of different colored fruits in your diet, 1 or 2 from each color group. Here is a list of different fruits..there are a lot to choose from, he should be eating more of them!

Reds: apples, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, watermellon, cranberries

Orange/Yellow: apricots, oranges, peaches, nectarines, lemons, bananas, pineapple, cantaloupe, grapefruit, mango

Green: apples, grapes, kiwi, limes, pears, honey dew

Blue/Purple: grapes, blueberries, plums, blackberries, prunes
Reply:3 servings of fruit a day should be good
Reply:I suppose like anything, you can eat too much of one type of food. There are a lot of natural sugars and acid in fruit, and too much could cause acid indigestion. But having said that, a lot of fruit and veg is better than lots of other processed foods. Lots of veg is great!

Try porridge oats..They are fantastic for lowering cholesterol and eaten once a day contribute to a very healthy diet.

I have also heard that grapefruit is also very good, but can't be sure
Reply:Maybe he needs the right type of fruit, I drink Acai juice, 4 oz. a day, which is the equivilant of the 3-5 servings of fruit recomended by the FDA.

Would you allow me to send some information to you on this amazing nutritional beverage? The juice contains the most potent antioxidant in the world -- the Acai Berry. Since you asked about fruit, I thought you might be interested. Please let me know if you would like to receive the information on the juice. Thank you for your time.

Why did God create the forbidden fruit on the Tree of Knowledge?

If He didn't want Eve to eat the fruit, why create it in the first place? And, why did He create the serpent who tempted Eve to eat the fruit?

Why did God create the forbidden fruit on the Tree of Knowledge?
God created man with free will knowing man had a sin nature and man would sin.

Without the law man would not realize his sin or his need for God.

The tree of knowledge of good and evil is symbolic for the law.

Man could not live up to God's righteousness.

Sin caused a separation between man and righteous God.

This separation from our Creator who sustains us is death.

The wages of sin is death.

This is the reason for the tree of life.

This is the reason Christ came to the world to overcome temptation as a man and to overcome sin and death for those who accept the atonement. Through the righteousness of Christ man can be joined to a righteous God for eternal life.

We are by faith made new and are rejoined to God for eternity with him.

Simply ignoring man's sin does not restore man to righteousness It is through the law we realize our need for God, for a savior.

The law could not make a man righteous but does show us our need for God.

Through the atonement we are by faith made new.

God foreknew of sin it is not a part of his plan, His plan is to deliver you from sin.

There are two trees in the midst of the garden,

The tree of knowledge of good and evil (the law) God's righteousness.

The tree of life (mercy) God's plan of salvation.

God created man he fully understood that man's nature was to sin.

Not allowing man to be tempted did not solve the problem.

God gave man the law knowing man would sin.

The law was not intended to make man righteous but to reveal to us our sin nature,

It is through the law we realize our need for God (a savior)

In this story of Genesis, God reveals man's fall from God's glory the fact that separation from a righteous God means death and God's plan of salvation to bring his creation to his righteousness through Jesus Christ.
Reply:God is perfect, Thus he would not command his children to partake of the forbidden fruit because if they did they would become mortal and die and he knew that. However with out partaking of the forbidden fruit Adam and Eve would never have known right from wrong it is the first step to becoming like God himself.
Reply:The tree in the Biblical myth story was the "Tree Of Knowledge of Good and Evil." It is important to note the full name, because of the following question:

If Adam and Eve had not yet eaten from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, then they would not have known it was "evil" to disobey god. It would have been only AFTER they had eaten of the tree that they would have realized it was "evil" to disobey god. So they had no way of knowing they were doing wrong until AFTER they committed the wrong that god punished them for by throwing them out of the Garden of Eden.

Seems somehow very very unfair.

So much for creation myths.
Reply:I'm not sure God reveals God's purposes to us; this merely points out what we already know, intuitively, and places it in a story we can "work out" in a way. We are the animals of the planet who "know" things, and truly do "have dominion" over it-- as terrible a burden and responsibility as that is (and as awful a job as we have done). We weren't meant to stay in the garden, we were meant to be cast out and live a life not of idle but of interaction and work and relationship. Women have always been where men have projected their sorrows about the burdens of life; women are closer to the earth, to nature, in the male imagination. Yes, this is a sacred story, but we need not ask God why it worked out this way-- it's a terribly human story.
Reply:God is imaginary. There were no Adam, Eve, serpent, or apple. This is a myth that attempts to explain the origin of the world, of so-called sin and of human suffering. But since you're a smart cookie, you already knew that.
Reply:he wanted us to freely choose whether to do good or evil. adam and eve freely chose to eat the fruit and disobey God. also, the devil was the serpent. he was created first as an angel. but just like he created man, God created angels with a free nature. the devil and other fallen angels (called demons) freely chose to reject God and burn forever in hell.
Reply:I don't get why the Tree of Knowledge is bad. Does that mean that knowledge is forbidden as its fruits are?

But anyway, you'll get answers saying it's about their choice to obey God or not. Bla blah blah, same answer as usual. However... why give Free Will if we get punished for going against him?
Reply:Because choice without something to choose between isn't a choice, is it?

and to add to that, would people know what good is if there is not a bad, and if so, would you really appreciate it??

and to further add to that, in life would you appreciate having money, if you never experienced not having money??
Reply:God simply created.

Satan made himself a satan by rebelling.

The tree was just a tree, but God used it as a test run.

Any time we make something, near the end we say,

"O.K. let's see if this thing works."

God installed obedience in the first man.

He wanted to see if it worked.

Sadly, Adam made a huge effort to go against his natural inclination to obey .....and sinned (disobeyed).
Reply:It was a test with a predictable outcome. God could not create man in a carnal state and therefore, had to give Adam and Eve a means by which they could disobey him and therefore, be sent into and become part of the carnal (mortal) world.
Reply:how can people say "THERE IS NO GOD" how can you be so sure? WHO ARE YOU? why do you do think you know everything? that pisses me off so bad

oh yeah, thumb be down you increcible atheist, i suppose that makes you feel powerful too just like when you like to tell yourself %26amp; other that you believe there is no God. Which means once you die, you're degraded to less than what you already are, a decomposed mess eaten by maggots. AND NOTHING MORE.EVER. yeah i bet that makes you feel real powerful now doesnt it
Reply:You still believe in that bed time story? Next, you'll tell me that we all came from Eve. That means that Adam, Cain, and Abel all had sex with her. How does that fit with your little world?
Reply:Satan ruined things but if they had listened we would all be in paradise. He wont give sinners immortal life..unless they repent

He made them human AFTER Satan rebelled..

Satan was orig an angel...BEfore he rebelled... He was thrown down..
Reply:God took the word entrapment way to literally.
Reply:Because choice without something to choose between isn't a choice, is it?
Reply:It is an Interesting Story...!!
Reply:Why try to explain the actions of mythological Gods?
Reply:Because he's a sadistic SOB
Reply:To play with people and tease them a bit. It all seems too unreal.
Reply:He thinks it's great fun to tempt people.
Reply:To give Adam and Eve a free choice
Reply:Oh goodie, I love a good fruity question.

I teach from the manuscripts. Sorry, there is no fruit in the

sin. No apple, I'm afraid. Not a single one.

The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is not a planted

tree. In fact, the very word "tree" as utilized in Scripture denotes both the opening and shutting of the eye as well as a backbone and spinal cord. Whats that mean? Its not a tree,

its an entity. The tree of the knowledge of good/evil was

Satan himself. The Tree of Life in the Garden was Christ.

Satan beguiled Eve. "Beguiled" means "wholly seduced".

When Adam and Eve sinned, they tied fig leaves together to make what? Was it a mask to hide their mouths because they had eaten forbidden fruit? No, it was aprons to cover their private parts - those parts that participated in the sin they were so ashamed of.

When God confronted them all about the sin, He told Eve

that one consequence of her part in this sin was that He

(God) would muliply her CONCEPTION. WHAT?? How the

hell did fruit do THAT? Well, I won't draw any pictures.

God did multiply her conception - multiplied by two, exactly:

Eve was pregnant with twins: one pregancy of two separate

conceptions: Abel was Adams son, but Cain was NOT.

Hard to believe? Go to Rev 5 and read the complete geneology of Adam: you won't find Cain listed in it, because

Cain was not Adams son. Likewise, go to Gen 4 and read

the complete geneology of Cain - you won't find Adam there

because Adam was simply not the father of Cain. Satan was.

Do you understand Biblically, what Satan was trying to do

here? Eve jeopardized the line of lineage that thru her,

down the generations, womb-to-womb, was to come the

Christ child. If Satan could pollute that lineage with his own

seed (yes, the manuscripts say "sperma") then Christ could

not have been born thru it, except that he (Satan) be an integrel part of it. This is why God separated those

conceptions. Where you read that Eve bore Cain and then

again bare his brother, Abel - that word "again" in the manuscripts is actually "continued in labor". What does it

mean when you have a baby and then your labor continues

and you have a second baby? TWINS. Both boys later

took their offerings to God at the exact same time, because they both reached the age of accountability at the exact same

time: TWINS.

Cain was later thrown out of the Garden, and God placed a mark on him. Ever hear of the Mark of the Beast? Here is

its beginning, right here placed onto Cain - the mark identifying his very own blood father, Satan himself.

Thats why Cain said he couldn't bear that mark, because everyone who saw it would kill him. Yeah, no doubt.

Cain travels to the town of Nod, where the sixth day creation

of all the races were living. He took a wife, and had lots of

decendants called Kenites in Scripture. They even made it

thru the flood of Noah, and you will find them raising havoc

all through the rest of the Old Testament, as well as the NT.

Note when God told the Rabbi in the Synagogue: "you are of your father, the devil, and the deeds you will do: he was a

MURDERER from the beginning......who was the first murderer? Cain, of course. Christ was speaking to one of

Satans very own offspring. Now when you read Matthew

13:36, the Parable of the Tares, it will take on a whole new

meaning for you.

There is alot more written in Gods Word than whats being

taught.

Help! I pruned my fruit trees, just like I do bushes, and now people are telling me I may have killed them!?

I just gained the responsibility of over 25 fruit trees. I was so excited to own so many different kinds... cherry, apple, plum, and, well... I don't even know what they all are!

I've pruned bushes a lot, and I love it, so I knew they needed pruning badly (they've been neglected for over five years) and I just got started as soon as I could... now I'm worried that I may have destroyed them.

I didn't know that there was any special kind of technique until I'd done several and someone asked me if I'd had any experience with fruit trees and it occurred to me that I'd better look into it.

I'm now feeling both ignorant AND stupid and I need some lengthy answers here, folks.

Not only did I do all of the necessary pruning in one shot, I also did it when they were flowering.

I have yet to find a website that tells me what to do to minimize the disaster now that I've already blew it, you know? Anyone have tons of experience with fruit trees? I need help!

Summer pruning produces different results from dormant pruning and can be used in the pome trees. Here are some sites to look over.

How do i dry fruit without a dehydrator?

So the other day i went to Costco and they were giving out free samples of dried fruit, and i loved it but we were in a hurry and i didnt get to see what it was called.i wanted to make my own dried fruit but i dont wanna buy a dehydrator. the fruit was apples pears and bannanas in thin slices. am i supposed to just like put them in the oven or what helpp im craving them right now!

How do i dry fruit without a dehydrator?
Cut up the fruit and place the slices on a baking pan. Take out a hairdryer, and put it on the cool setting.

Continue drying the fruit until crisp. Enjoy.

Reply:slice the fruit of your choice thinly and arrange it in a single layer on a baking sheet. sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent extreme browning, and add a little sugar (white or brown) if you like.

place in a low oven, about 200*F and check every few minutes until the desired level of dehydration is reached.
Reply:I was thinking the same thing. I love dried bananas!
Reply:Choose Which Drying Method is Right For You-

* Sun Drying This is rather difficult because you need three to four sunny days of at least 100 degrees in a row.

* Oven Drying Oven drying is an acceptable method of drying food, but it isn't very energy efficient, and foods aren't very flavorful in the end. If your oven cannot obtain temperatures below 200 degrees Fahrenheit, use another method for food dehydration. You will need to prop open the oven door to maintain air circulation during the drying process.

* Electric Dehydrating This is the best method of dehydrating food. An electric dehydrator is energy efficient and can be operated at low temperatures needed to maintain nutritive values in the food. Your electric food dehydrator should have some sort of heat control and a fan to maintain air circulation during the drying process.

The Drying Process-

When drying food, don't keep temperatures too low or too high. Temperatures too low may result in the growth of bacteria on the food. Temperatures too high will result in the food being cooked instead of dried. Food that is under dried will spoil, and food that is over dried will lose its flavor and nutritive value.

Food should be dehydrated between 120 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. You can begin drying your food at higher temperatures, but turn the temperature down after the first hour or so. The last hour or so of drying time should be turned down on a lower setting. You must turn the food and rotate the trays while the food is drying.

You will know your food is dried when when you touch it, and it is leathery with no pockets of moisture. If you are testing fruit, you can tear a piece in half. If you see moisture beads along the tear, it is not dry enough. Meat should be tough, but shouldn't snap apart. Vegetables should also be tough but can also be crisp.

When storing your dried product, keep in mind that no moisture should be allowed to enter the container...ever. Dried food absorbs moisture from the air, so the storage container must be airtight. Some acceptable storage containers are jars and plastic freezer bags. If storing fruit leather, wrap in plastic wrap and store in a another airtight container. Store your containers of dried food in a cool, dark, dry place. 60 degrees Fahrenheit or below is best.

Does eating Fruit make you hungry?

hey guys...this might be a silly question. I try to eat as healthy as possible and when i get a snack in between meals i like to eat a fruit however i find when i do finish eating fruit (especially 'apples' ) i get even hungrier..and need up eating something else straight after it - which i dont want to do.

So has anyone else found that its the same with them?

Does eating Fruit make you hungry?
I get the same thing most times too. I thought I was the only one. It gets annoying as I am trying to be healthy and exercise and eat right. Maybe eating so much rubbish for so long has done it. Although I never thought I ate too badly to start with. :)
Reply:it is a silly question.by eating somthin u should be hungry anymore
Reply:have a glass of skim milk with it, Between the fiber of the apple and the protein in the milk, they will slow your digestion down so you won't get that hungry feel right away.
Reply:OMG!!! how can you be hungry after eating apples!!! apples are the fruits that make me feel full the most!! I feel like I just ate an entire course after eating an apple!! wow

sorry-I just found that strange, the opposite usually happens to me with most fruits, however there are some that don't have a strong enough taste that allows me to feel like I havn't eaten anything...so i guess in a sense I kind of get the same thing
Reply:Fruit is high in sugar, so after you eat it your body experiences a slight sugar high. When you come down from this high you can feel hungrier. A good way to solve this is to eat your fruit with a little bit of peanut butter.

Lots of fruit and water .. gain/loose weight?

I have been eating a lot of fruit over the past two weeks and it looks like I have gained a bit of weight :(

I usually start off with a coffee or tea (milk only) and later eat fruit in the morning (half peach / pear / plum). Then have a banana 1hr before lunch. Then for lunch have a decent lunch (sometimes rice or salad). 1 hr after lunch I eat the other half of the pear / peach / plum. Throughout the day I have a lot of water probably 5x500ml bottles of it. When I get home I usually have a tea and maybe 3 biscuits and then have dinner around 7pm.

I weighed approx 173 last week and this morning when I checked I was at 177 pounds. I am freaking and dont know what I have done wrong. I started treadmilling 2 days ago for 15 mins/day.

I am a male / 32 years old.

Please help .. :(

Lots of fruit and water .. gain/loose weight?
Firstly, its totally naturally for your weight to fluctuate even if you are losing weight overall. I hate the days where I am really controlled in my eating and wake up the next morning and I've gained!

Drinking water definately helps weight loss. Dehydration slows down the fat-burning process. Plus, water helps fluid retention, as your body won't hang onto the water, as it knows it will be getting more regularly. I think what you're drinking is definately a good amount.

You should probably start with a proper breakfast meal of low-sugar cereal or wholemeal toast, rather than just coffee/tea...it'll help kickstart your metabolism for the day. Some people say coffee aids weight loss and some people say it makes it worse, but I wouldn't worry about that so much...maybe use skim milk instead of normal milk though.

It sounds like you're eating a good amount of fruit, you should have 2-4 servings a day. Fruit is high in sugar though. Fruit juice is even higher in sugar because, I don't know if you've ever used a juicer, but it takes like...10 carrots to make a glass of carrot juice. Which is the sugar equivalent of 10 carrots in one serving. And sugar gets turned into fat. I don't know if you're drinking fruit juice or excess fruit, but that could definately hinder you. I used to snack on 100% fruit bars and I thought I was doing a good thing, until my doctor told me to quit it immediately because I was pretty much eating the same sugar content as a chocolate bar each time I ate one.

Salad or rice sounds good for lunch...make sure you have protein too. Brown rice instead of white rice is healthier, as well. And for dinner, about 1/2 your plate should be vegetables.

The biscuits probably aren't helping, so I'd cut those if you can.

As for the exercise...thats cool about the treadmilling...start off at 5 days a week of cardio for 20 minutes, and then aim to increase to 30 minutes, 5 days a week.

Overall it sounds like you're eating pretty well though...I don't know how tall you are, but your weight doesn't sound that unhealthy. Maybe you're at a reasonable weight for your height? That being said, it sounds like its one of those awful random weeks where your weight fluctuates for no reason!
Reply:Not at all sure what the problem is - maybe you're retaining water. This can be caused by a high salt diet, food sensitivities, a whole bunch of things. IF that's your problem.

You need to eat a better breakfast to kick start your metabolism for the day. If you skip breakfast you make it a lot harder to lose weight.

Also, 15 mins a day on the treadmill isn't going to achieve much if weight loss is your goal. You need at least 30 mins a day of exercise, preferably 60. You don't start burning fat till around the 30 minute mark.

Too much fruit??

ok, so for some reason my mom thinks i'm eating too much fruit

but all i ate today (as far as fruit)

was an apple, and oarange, like, 3 strawberries, and a plum

and i'll probably have one piece of something after dinner

am i really eating too much or is my mommy just a little crazy??

Too much fruit??
If you eat too much its not good for ya no matter what it is but a great portion of fruit is not a bad thing at all. Your mom probably thinks you're not getting meat and all you're doing is eating fruit lol. I wouldn't say crazy more like misunderstood and tell her how you feel about yourself.
Reply:I say that it only seems like a lot if you've eaten a lot of other things too. But if you haven't, then I say that it's okay to do that since fruit is healthy, right?
Reply:Lol! Dont worry i do the same. I kind of went through a stage where like i would die if i didnt have fruit lol. Like one time i had like 3 apples, a cup of strawberries, a banana, an orange, and a pear. (But i didnt get the runs, which was my plan bc i am pretty backed up regulary sadly) But anyways no it is totally fine! That is not that much really because they say that you are suppose to have like 4-6 servings of fruit daily. Keep it up!

God Bless

=) Kasey
Reply:that doesn't seem excessive to me, but I'm not a mom...

She's probably concerned since although fruit is good for you it normally is also rich in calories. If you are a little heavier than you should be try a few less servings of fruit and a few more of veggies... as they are equally as healthy, normally contain more fiber and less calories than your beloved fruit.
Reply:well it's a little over the top. i would stick to about half of that. fruit has natural sugars and if you have too much, it's not as healthy.
Reply:it is a lot, unless spaced out through the day.

remember too much of some fruits makes for long bathroom breaks!
Reply:If this is truly what you have consumed today (fruit wise) or will consume. 'No' your fruit intake is not excessive.

It is somewhat difficult to define what is too much and what is not enough.

The problem with too much fruit is the lack of Vitamin B12, a bacterial product, it is not found in any fruits, sources of vitamin B12 are limited to foods that come from animals.

Like vegans, fruitarians (this is the name given to people who just eat fruit) need to include a B12 supplement in their diet.

Fruitarian's, when discussing food, the term "fruit" usually refers to just those plant fruits that are sweet and fleshy (for example, plums, apples, and oranges).

Botanically, though, some foods not typically considered fruits -- including bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, nuts and grains -- are fruits

This is a non-trivial problem for fruitarians because the most common non-animal source of B12 supplements is yeast, which is a fungus.

At the end is a site you may like to visit. I do not advicate that you take up this type of life style as it is very difficult to maintain a balanced diet and some fruits will be very high in sugars.

Also to much fiber can cause very loose bowel movments and a high level of flatulance, which will lead you to find out who your real friends are.

Where do fruit flies go when they’re not after fruit?

whenever we eat a piece of fruit in the office, ie/ peel a banana they appear in seconds, so where are they up until then?????

Where do fruit flies go when they’re not after fruit?
Droshpilia do not just feed on fruit, though they are best known for that. They survive by eating carbohydrates. If you leave a piece of bread on the counter, you will attract them just as quickly as with a banana peel. They do seek out fruit more often to satisfy their nasal senses.

To get rid of them (since this is probably one of the questions behind the question) put out a piece of fruit laced with ether. The ether will cause them to sleep. Then flush the fruit down the toilet. Make sure to keep your kitchen clean, especially the tray of the toaster and toaster oven. Eventually, with diligent cleaning, they will go away.

Ether and FruitFlyNap can be found at teacher supply stores - it's used for advanced biology.

Can you put frozen fruit in a juicer?

I know fresh fruit is better but damn a couple of blueberries (fresh ) costs 5 bucks ! So can you put frozen fruit in a juicer or will it get stuck?or should I let it thaw and get soft? Will it have the same or close to the nutritional benefits of fresh fruit? Thanks

Can you put frozen fruit in a juicer?
I think so, but just 2 be on the safe side, thaw them out 1st.
Reply:Usually frozen fruits have a lot of sugar in them.

I would let them thaw for a couple of minutes, not too long, though. They taste pretty good though. Are you going to use yogurt/juice/ice cream? Yogurt is the best with any blueberries.

The cost of produce really has gone up, so the frozen alternative is nice to have.
Reply:Yes.

Why is fruit punch a flavor?

I understand fruit punch is a combination of fruits, but why is the word punch there?

Why is fruit punch a flavor?
Because it is Fruit Punch!
Reply:because it is red
Reply:because it is punch
Reply:Because it's a punch.
Reply:to tell the truth i have no idea
Reply:i would guess because it has a bunch of fruit flavors all in one
Reply:Fruit punch is a trade name brand from Hawaiian Punch, Coca Cola. They have a distinctive flavor of different fuit juices. Punch came as a "kick" ( meaning spice up ) with fruits.

Later, the society accepted fruit punch as a flavor, for everyone to understand.
Reply:Perhaps it is because the drink of fruit punch has a distinct taste and it's easier label a flavor as "fruit punch" than to spell out all the different fruits in it.

Whats this fruit ?

its a small yellow sour fruit kinda like a peach texture that grows on a medium sized tree im sure its not posiness cause i have tasted it but i have no idea what it is? anyone know?

http://i27.tinypic.com/2j5c1gh.jpg

heres a pic of the tree u can see the fruit is starting to grow

Whats this fruit ?
It is not a fig, and it is definitely not a kumquat. A kumquat is a small citrus fruit, so a kumquat has a rind like a lemon or orange. By the way, sweet kumquats are delicious!

It is a Loquat, which is often called a "Japanese Plum" here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_pl...

They are very juicy and somewhat sweet and tasty when bright yellow or orange. We have a couple of these trees near where I park my car at work, and I watched the fruit as it began to ripen. One day, a squirrel was just gorging herself on the fruit. Later, I saw a bird eating all of the fruit that the squirrel left behind. They cleaned that tree in a day or two! I was sorry that I didn't get to eat many, but far be it from me to steal food from a squirrel!
Reply:Loquat for sure. Chinese people use it for medicinal purposes (as a child my mom would give me loquat cough syrup--which was thick like molasses but tasted pretty good!). The fruit tastes fabulous if you pick it at the right time. The seeds are rather large.
Reply:I don't think it is a fig...

Damn...

It looks so famaliar but I just can't bring to mind what it is...

I'll keep the pic up and if it comes to mind, I will edit.
Reply:The correct answer is a Loquat or Japaneese plum.

They are usually a little sour, but if picked at just the right time they are very good to eat.
Reply:loquat go to this link to get more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loquat

The reason it looks so different is because it isn't ripe yet.
Reply:Im not sure those are fruits, they might be or they are just baby fruits
Reply:Loquat for sure... we have them growing here. Delicious when ripe. Grows into a large tree.
Reply:Pretty certain it's a fig
Reply:Jen is correct, loquat.
Reply:a fig
Reply:this food is a lemon

it's leaves look like loquat tree leaves, though.
Reply:i dunno but i LOVE that fruit!i pick it off my neighbors yard without telling and run away lol

Reply:sorry i don't know what it is ,but its definitely not a FIG!!

Ideas for fruit/vegetable purees please?

My daughter seems to like fruit much more then veg so I'd like some ideas for fruit/vegetable combinations so I can get her to eat more vegetables.

Ideas for fruit/vegetable purees please?
swede and carrot, sweet potato and butternut squash, parsnip added with any of these!! to make veg more bland and milky add 2 oz of milk to the dish it works well!!!
Reply:I thnk your baby likes fruit because its sweeter. I dont know but mixing fruit and vegetables sounds weird. Why dont you try sweet vegetables, like mashed boiled carrots, sweet potatoes, sweetcorn, baby peas? You could use a blender to make a thick puree.
Reply:I found with my two boys they both loved carrot and apple, carrot, parsnip and turnip, sweet potato, butternut squash etc. These root veg all tend to be a bit sweeter than the greens and you can mix them in with some of the more bitter veggies to sweeten them for your baby's palate and gradually reduce the amount of sweeter veg and increase the others.
Reply:Try mixing Carrott with with fruit. Carrott has little flavour so she probablt wont notice. Banana and mash potato is another good one to try.Any Fruit will mix with potato or carrott.
Reply:Everyone I know that has babies that are weening swear by 'Annabel Karmel' cookbooks. I am 100% there will be something in there for your daughter. Alternatively, why don't you try sweet tasting vegetables such as sweet potato, sweetcorn and parsnip? They are all sweet and vegetables too! Weening seems to be really trial and error, keep at it!
Reply:try some sweet potatoes or butternut squash.
Reply:You could mix any that you want. Baby's have different tastes than we do. Does she like orange/yellow veggies? Those are sweeter. If she takes to those, you may try sneaking in some mixed veggies with some green ones.
Reply:Apple and potato

Avocado and banana

butternut squash mashed with freshly squeezed orange juice

Squash also mixes nice with pear

Carrot and orange juice

Basically you can try anything!
Reply:if you have a blender or a smoothie have fun trying out different ways of combining fruit with veg as my child would not eat when i first tried so i just got busy and well you just have to try and see its the fun in trying that gets the answer!!and now 4 yrs later there she is eating fresh carrots on the way to school as well as 2-3 fruits during the day and then once home tomatoes lettuce cucumber gherkins and even mushrooms and all fresh as no blending evrything takes time and they always like one or two from the testing goodluck!!

How many Servings of FRUIT do you need in a day???
you need about 3-5 servings of fruit a day, the more the better. :)
Reply:I've heard at least five for an adult. At least, that's the Dole campaign and what the government food pyramid recommends. I'm a 30 years old and I get at least five a day (of both fruits and veggies), counting my daily cup of OJ, as juice is to be considered a serving. The juice is fortified which is why I drink it, but it's better to get the whole fruit as it contains more nutrients and fiber. You might receive more information if you do a search for recommended servings of fruit.

Also, carefully proofread your paper before turning it in. My fifth grade teacher was a stickler for proper punctuation, grammar, etc. and this was way before it was "slang" to use numbers for words, letters for words, etc. Just some extra help. (Actually, my sister is a fifth grade teacher and she does that with her students' papers, too.)

Johnny & the bag of fruit - funny or not?

One day in class the teacher brought a bag full of fruit. "Now class, I'm going to reach into the bag and describe a piece of fruit, and you tell what fruit I'm talking about. Okay, first: it's round, plump and red."

Of course, Johnny raised his hand high, but the teacher, wisely ignored him and picked Deborah, who promptly answered "An apple." The teacher replied, "No Deborah, it's a beet, but I like your thinking." Now for the second. It's soft, fuzzy, and colored red and brownish."

Well, Johnny is hopping up and down in his seat trying to get the teacher to call on him. But she skips him again and calls on Billy. "Is it a peach?" Billy asks. "No, Billy, I'm afraid it's a potato. But I like your thinking," the teacher replies. Here's another: it's long, yellow, and fairly hard."

By now Johnny is about to explode as he waves his hand frantically. The teacher skips him again and calls on Sally. "A banana," she says. "No," the teacher replies, "it's a squash, but I like your thinking."

Johnny is kind of irritated now, so he speaks up loudly. "Hey, I've got one for you teacher; let me put my hand in my pocket. Okay, I've got it: it's round, hard, and it got a head on it." "Johnny!" she cries. "That's disgusting!" "Nope," answers Johnny, "it's a quarter, but I like your thinking!"

What the hell is a coconut? Is it a fruit, a nut? or what? I think it is a fruit.?

A fruit contains seeds on the inside and vegetables do not. Technically a strawberry's seeds on the outside is the fruit and the flesh part is considered a vegetable. In the scientific world there really is no such thing as a vegetable only comes up in the culinary world. Vegetables are usually savory and fruits are sweet according to culinary terms. A cucumber is actually a fruit but we the public consider it to be a vegetable. One thing I cannot figure out is what the hell a coconut is. is it a nut, a seed, or a fruit?

What the hell is a coconut? Is it a fruit, a nut? or what? I think it is a fruit.?
1. The fruit of the coconut palm, consisting of a fibrous husk surrounding a large seed.

2. The large, brown, hard-shelled seed of the coconut, containing white flesh surrounding a partially fluid-filled central cavity.

3. The edible white flesh of the coconut, often shredded and used in food and confections or for the extraction of coconut oil.

4. A coconut palm.

Reply:Fruit.
Reply:A coconut is a fruit because of the pulp that is inside.
Reply:its a fruit...or at least thats what i think cause it is in the fruit section of the grocery
Reply:use the internet
Reply:Botanically, a coconut is a simple dry fruit known as a fibrous drupe (not a true nut). The husk (mesocarp) is composed of fibres called coir and there is an inner "stone" (the endocarp). This hard endocarp (the coconut as sold in the shops of non-tropical countries) has three germination pores that are clearly visible on the outside surface once the husk is removed. It is through one of these that the radicle emerges when the embryo germinates. Adhering inside wall of endocarp is the testa with a thick albuminous endosperm, the coconut meat, the white and fleshy edible part of the seed.

When viewed on end, the endocarp and germination pores resemble the face of a monkey, the Portuguese word for which is macaco, sometimes abbreviated to coco, hence the name of the fruit. The specific name nucifera is Latin for nut bearing.

When the coconut is still green, the endosperm inside is thin and tender, a favourite snack. But the main reason to pick the nut at that stage is to drink its juice; a big nut contains up to one litre of refreshing drink. When the nut has ripened and the outer husk has turned brown, a couple of months later, it will fall from the tree of its own accord. At that time the endosperm has thickened and hardened, while the juice has become somewhat bitter.

Coconut flower. Location: Taliparamba, Kannur, Kerala, India. To open a coconut, remove the outer husk (if not purchased already removed) and pierce two of the three eyes of the fruit (one for the juice to come out of, one to enable air to go in); drain the juice from the fruit. Since coconuts have a naturally-forming fracture point, they can be opened by taking a heavy knife, such as a meat cleaver, and striking the coconut with the flat edge of the knife. Or you can use a flat-bladed screwdriver and a hammer (which is easier, and may be safer than using a cleaver). After inserting the screwdriver slightly, twist it to crack the shell. The coconut should then be turned, and this process repeated until there is a contiguous crack in the shell around the entire fruit. Afterwards, the fruit can be separated at this fracture point. An alternative method is to first drain the juice from the coconut and then place it in an oven at 180 °C for 20 minutes. The heat will crack the shell as well as loosen the flesh, enough so that it will almost fall off.

Coconuts affected by Eriophyid mites. Location: Taliparamba, Kannur, Kerala, India. When the nut is still green the husk is very hard, but green nuts rarely fall, only when they have been attacked by moulds, etc. By the time the nut naturally falls, the husk has become brown, the coir has become dryer and softer, and the nut is less likely to cause damage when it drops. Still there have been instances of coconuts falling from trees and injuring people, and claims of some fatalities. This was the subject of a paper published in 1984 that won the Ig Nobel Prize in 2001. Falling coconut deaths are often used as a comparison to shark attacks, making the claim that it is more likely to be killed by a falling coconut than by a shark. There is no evidence of people being killed in this manner (column from The Straight Dope). However William Wyatt Gill, an early LMS missionary on Mangaia recorded a story in which Kaiara, the concubine of King Tetui, was killed by a falling, green nut. The offending tree was immediately cut down. This was around 1777, the time of Captain Cook's visit.

In some parts of the world, trained monkeys are used to harvest coconuts. Training schools for monkeys still exist in southern Thailand. Competitions are held each year to discover the fastest harvester.

The Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera), is a member of the Family Arecaceae (palm family). It is the only species in the Genus Cocos, and is a large palm, growing to 30 m tall, with pinnate leaves 4-6 m long, pinnae 60-90 cm long; old leaves break away cleanly leaving the trunk smooth. The term coconut refers to the fruit of the coconut palm.
Reply:I would think a nut...hence the name cocoNUT
Reply:It is a fruit and a seed as well. If it geminates a palm tree will grow.
Reply:i looked up the word coconut in the dictionary and heres what it said.

Reply:The coconut is generally considered a fruit.

If you want to get technical, a fruit contains seeds. By definition, tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash are fruit while carrots, celery, and radishes are vegetables.

Types of fruit you eat in a day!?

With regards to eating 5 a day I was just wondering if it mattered if you ate 2 or more of the same fruit in a day? Like today I had 2 apples and 4 satsumas- is that bad and if so, why? Is it better to have lots of different fruits in a day?

you should mix vegetables in there. 5 a day is for both frutis and veggies. Fruits are really high in sugar, and therefore in calories, so you don't want to have more than 2 or 3 servings. Instead, eat a couple of pieces of fruit, or servings of berries, and then have 3 or 4 servings of vegetables. Nutritionists are now chaning their mind to say we should have closer to 9 servings of fruits and veggies a day! So, in that case, you could have 3-4 of fruit, and the rest veggies. Because, by the time you eat all that, you don't have room for any other food anyway, so you don't have to worry about the extra calories in fruit. :)
Reply:You are suppose to eat two fruits a day. I think that two of same kind would be ok. You should also eat two kinds of veg a day.
Reply:no, it doesn't matter if you eat the same fruit twice, check out the vitamins for the fruit you eat and compare it to other fruit.
Reply:It is not bad as such but variety is much better, Different fruits have different nutrients and vitamins. You have a better chance of getting what you need if you eat a variety.
Reply:Worrying about it is worse for your health than anything. It does not matter. You can get a more varied nutrition in a day by eating different ones but it don't matter. I would say that if most of your diet is fruit and you only eat one kind of fruit for one year, then it is a concern.

But eat many different fruit over the year. In the last week I had strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, watermelon, kiwi, papaya, oranges, red grapes, Fuji apple, Asian pear and avocados. See site below to see why fruits are the healthielst food.

I forgot. I eat a banana almost everyday for the extra potassium.
Reply:Lately I have been eating so many blueberries I just may turn into one.

My boyfriend's mom got 11 lbs of them in vermont...yum...besides that i need to increase my fruit intake.
Reply:The fruits I'll have today are an orange, apple, and cherries. Everyday one of my fruits is citrus and one is some form of an apple, then the other could be a banana, grapes, cherries, peaches, what ever is fresh at the market. I always have three different fruits. I also always have a salad and two servings of vegetables. I feel great when I make sure I get all these things, and my body's digestion system is on track.
Reply:variety is the spice of life..i am sure that applies to food too.so..i'd say different fruits.
Reply:i dont think it really matter, the thing to eating a lot of fruits a day is to get different types of nutrients. so if u eat 2 types of fruit thats pretty good
Reply:it is better to have different fruits because of the different vitamins you get in different ones, but having more than one type of fruit still counts
Reply:I doubt it. There are different nutrients in different types of fruits, but eating two of the same fruit is much better than an alternative like candy bars or potato chips!
Reply:Nah, I don't think it really matters. It's good to have variety but it won't make you any less healthy if you eat more then one of the same fruit. As long as you're eating fruit, and not chips or burgers, you'll be fine.
Reply:Variety is good, but eating the same fruits wont kill you. Try berries: they can help rev up your metabolism, especially strawberries. and they're great! it really doesnt matter though. as long as you dont eat TOO much. like eating 8 apples in one day....thats not good. lol
Reply:My mom told me she goes by colors. You should eat atleast seven different colors a day. 5 servings of fruits and veggies helps with different colors because if you are eating too many refined foods your diet is mostly beige and thats a good cue that your not getting nutrients which are in more vibrantly colored foods. Good luck!
Reply:eat banans,peaches pears.kiw,apples,oranges

Puppy loves fruit?

My six month old puppy loves fruit - apples, banana, grapes, dry figs and he also adores chestnuts.

Is it ok to give him fruit? Which ones are best and which ones are should be avoided?

Puppy loves fruit?
yes, dogs by nature are scavengers not carnavors as some people think. Cats, as a species, are meat eating but dogs can eat just about anything and be fine. Do not feed them chocolate or salmon. That particular kind of fish is actually poisonous and chocolate can make them very sick depending on a few variables. I am not being more specific with chocolate because people would get it wrong, it's better just to keep the straight rule of no chocolate. As for fruit and veggies, go to town. Balanced diets are great for dogs and have some very good benefits.
Reply:no i don't think it is allowed cause it could poison the puppy
Reply:fruit and veg r gud for dogs as in the wild the animals they eat would have eaten things like that. You shouldn't give it lettuce though as that can give them gripe and onions can be posionous along with chocolate. My dogs always loved a carrot after their evening feed. They'd sit and wait till they got one. Giving them a carrot would clean their teeth. In the summer we wondered why there wasn't any runner beans on the bottom of the vines until we caught the dogs helping themselves to them lol.
Reply:i don't think fig is a good idea as it may cause a skin reaction i think the others are fine but keep them in small doses. if you are worried about these sort of things why don't you go on amazon or to a good local book shop and by yourself a book about these sorts of things i have a very good one bought from amazon called DOG OWNERS HOME VETERINARY HANDBOOK and sometimes i am glad i have it i think it or an equivalent is a must for all dog owners.
Reply:Well, none of the ones you listed are dangerous for your puppy to eat. My two dogs love vegetables thier favorite is Green Pepper.

There are none that I can think of that should be avoided due to health issues; but definately avoid Carrots (normal and baby) broccolli. They will not be very pleasent to be around after they eat those. Actually, you probably won't want to be in the same room with him. They can cause really bad gas, not bloating gas, just really bad smelling. Also, as a puppy, avoid really high sugar foods, puppy and sugar rush mean anything?

Nice to hear you have a health food nut puppy, but remember they should be used for treats, not an all the time snack. Otherwise you will need a puppy treadmill when he is 18 months.

Good luck with your new puppy.
Reply:Yeah I think it's fine. My puppy is 7-months old and I give him clemintine slices all the time. If you aren't sure, just ask a vet.
Reply:I have had dogs who love fruit and nuts, but the Vet said not to feed them that. Their digestive tracts are different than ours. If you want them to live longer, only feed them good dog food.
Reply:Fruit is ok to give, if he likes veggies that would be a better choice. Never give your pup grapes, raisins and i would stay away from the figs. Grapes and raisins can hold toxins in their skins and make animals very sick. All of these should be given in moderation...like a bite once or twice a week.
Reply:fruit and veggies are good
Reply:Really there isn't a need to give your dog any fruit. But if you're watching your dog's weight, measure his meals carefully - and keep a portion set asid ein a baggie or something to use as treats throughout the day.

Giving your dog ANY people food encourages him to beg for it later in life - not to mention what happens when you have a holiday get together some day and your pooch decides he wants Grandma's, or baby's fruit??

As for all the posts that said to stay away from grapes. They are right. The state university near my home has a vet hospital. They have all kinds of pamphlets about grapes. HOWEVER - they do not know why they are toxic to SOME dogs. NOT all. In fact, a relative of min has labs %26amp; goldens that eat grapes they steal from the vines themselves. Luckily, the grapes don't affect them. Yet, I would never take the chance.

Why bother chancing your little pup's life with any people food?? If you want specialty food for him, there is plenty available made for dogs!
Reply:yes i think it ok. just watch for the runs, you may have to watch how much he has thats all. and that hes chewing it properly and doesn't choke.
Reply:you should avoid giving him grapes. They love them, but they can be toxic (same with raisins). Apples and bananas are great! try babay carrots too.
Reply:my dog loves eating carrots and outer leaves of cabbage, broccoli, anything basically. she dont like the texture of bananas though!! you do have to be aware of the poisonous ones.

Onions-can cause:Hemolytic Anemia, laboured breathing, liver damage, vomiting, diarhea, discoloured urine

Mushrooms-can cause:abdominal pain, drooling, liver damage, kidney damage, vomiting diarhea, convulsions, coma, death

Grapes / Raisins- can cause:vomiting, diarhea, abdominal pain, lethargy

Chocolate- can cause:staggering, laboured breathing, vomiting, diarhea, abdominal pain, tremours, fever, heart rate increase, arrythmia, seizures, coma, death

Coffee / Cocoa-can cause:staggering, laboured breathing, vomiting, diarhea, abdominal pain, tremours, fever, heart rate increase, arrythmia, seizures, coma, death
Reply:Here is a list of foods and such that can b harmful to your dog.

coffee grounds, Chocolate, yeast dough, macadamia nuts, fatty foods, Avocado, grapes/raisins, Onions, tea, alcohol, salt, garlic, AND chewing gum, candy and breath fresheners, containing xylitol. I am including a site for you to go to where you can pull up a online brochure that contains dangers around the house such as certain kinds of plants that are also toxic to dogs.

http://www.avma.org/communications/broch...

please go there to find out about foods and other things. Good luck with your dog. It doesn't appear that the grapes have hurt him but maybe it can in the future the other fruits you give him should be good. Mine do well with the apples, and bananas, and dried apricots and dried pineapples they really love them. enjoy your pet.
Reply:my friend's dog eats apples and carrots but my dog just looks at me like i'm stupid when i offer him fruit or veg!
Reply:i have had two broader collies, that have loved fruit. one lived until she was 18 years old, and the fruit did her no harm. the one we have now, just loves fruit.

the one we have now eats apples, banana, grapes, orange, mandarins, melon and strawberries.

i know when i took the youngest collie to the vets as a pup, and said she was eating fruit, the vets reply was she'll will not get scurvy, (a lack of vit c disease).

but if you are worried, just talk to your vet
Reply:my dog loves polo mints and grapes,

but i heard a vet on the paul o'grady show say the grapes are extremely toxic to dogs.

my vet confirms that this is true

yet my dogs still insist on eating the wierest things...raw onions anyone?
Reply:do not give your puppy grapes they will kill them they are very bad for them and so is choclate and also nut are bad for them
Reply:NO GRAPES, a slow acting toxin is contained in grapes %26amp; raisens
Reply:my older st bernard boxer mix loves fruit, he will eat any kind of fruit you give him except blueberrys. im not sure but i think it is ok to give him fruit. i dont think it will hurt him. just dont give him tons.
Reply:Definitely NO grapes!

They contain a toxin which dogs are unable to secrete. This toxin gradually builds up in their system and then begins to cause damage. Apparently, there is also a toxin in chocolate which builds up in a dog's system in the same way.

I don't know of any problems with other fruits, nuts or vegetables.

By the way, don't worry about the grapes he's already had, it's probably not enough to have done any damage, but please don't build on it any more.

Enjoy your puppy.
Reply:u can give any fruit to a dog if they like it just not all the time because u could give it diaherra just give ur dog two pieces a week all somethink like that just not too much
Reply:grapes and prunes should be avoided as the digestive system of the dog is already fast enough
Reply:Just dont give him too much in one day. Dogs are just like us, too much can upset there tummy.
Reply:try a vegetable especially carrots. carrots are very very healthy for dogs
Reply:its fine just give it in moderation too much can give them diarrhoea. try him with some veg to mine loves cucumber and turnip
Reply:yes, it shoudl be fine, at 6 months he's big enough to have different things, just don't go overboard
Reply:Make sure they are pitted first. Avocado is best for dog's (health wise).
Reply:NO GRAPES, NO RAISINS-MY BEAGLE LOVES ALL THAT TOO-GRAPES AND RAISINS CAN KILL THEM
Reply:It is good for them as it is good for us. Just, don't give it too much because it will not eat his own dog food.
Reply:always double check with your vet. But a big no on the grapes..... There is no charge for a phone call to the vets.

my vet helped me deliver my first litter of pups on the phone for 2 hours with no charge. But no no no grapes. And make sure they are getting a good quality dog food. No walmart brand. one of my other breeders has lost 2 dogs because the people she sold the puppies to would not feed them any dog food. Dog food has many nutrients that dogs have to have.

What is your favorite fruit?

my friend wants to know what the best kind of fruit is bc she is haveing a b'day party and she does not know what kind of fruit to get bc she does not really eat fruit so can you give me some idea's to give her?

What is your favorite fruit?
Finger Food:

Strawberries - whole

Grapes (white and red) - small bunches

Watermelon - cut into wedges

Cantalope - cut into wedges

Honeydew melon - cut into wedges

Pineapple - cut into wedges

For a party, avoid banans as they brown really quickly and get slimey. Also avoid apples, unless they have been sprinkled with lemon juice because they get brown and ugly looking too.

For fruit salads:

Various berries mixed together with a little brown sugar (cut up strawberries, raspberries, black berries, blue berries)

Mixed melon balls (watermelon, cantalope, honeydew)

Mixed fruit - 1 can pineapple chunks, cut up red, green and yellow apples, 1 can mandarine oranges, grapes and one can of tropical fruit cocktail all into one bowl. take the juice from the mandarine oranges, 1 tablesppon lemon juice and some of the pineapple juice along with enough mayonaise (not miracle whip) to make a thin dressing and pour on top of the fruit. one or two bananas can be added at this point and mix it all up.
Reply:Watermelon
Reply:fruit if yummy!
Reply:Kiwi's are good. Mango is exotic. Strawberries and watermelon are always popular choices.
Reply:Strawberries
Reply:strawberries dipped in chocolate, you can't go wrong with this one

Reply:Mangos, watermelon (a big hit in hot weather) , grapes , strawberries, bananas.
Reply:she could make fruit basket get a large watermelon, melon scoop, honeydew, strawberrys, 1 lemon, some apples ( sliced on the thin side)..cut the watermelon in half, scoop out melon balls with scoop as well as honeydew, cut the strawberries ( sliced thins) oh yeah and don forget the cantelope ( scooped)..mix all ingredients inside of hull of watermelon sprinkle with some lemon juice refrigerate for an hour and serve
Reply:strawberry and kiwi and sprinkle a little splenda simple and sweet and delicious!
Reply:Grapes and Mangos - MmMmMmmmmmmm......!
Reply:turnips
Reply:mango's!
Reply:Strawberries.

You can make dessert with them. You can make a marshmallow creme (they sell it in a jar at grocery store), mix about half a mix of marshmallow creme and I believe about 1/4 of cream cheese and mix it. What you should do is run the hot water on the spoon so the mix slides off easily when stirring. Im not sure the exact measurement of the creams but you could probably look it up. Maybe at the Kraft website.
Reply:Fresh pineapple

and

tell ur friend not to share any fruit but she can share fruit salad to her friend on the D day.
Reply:Fresh ripe peaches.
Reply:Kiwi fruit
Reply:Cherries.
Reply:I LUV ALL FRUIT BUT MY FAV'S R

Reply:Actually I like durian. If you have an asian market near you they probably carry them. They are imported. I first found them in the Philippines, don't know if they are grown in other countries or not.

A warning. They smell terrible! They taste great! It is often said of the durian, they smell like hell and taste like heaven. This might be something out of the ordinary to liven up the party.

HTH
Reply:mangoes, strawberrys, watermelon, grapes, honeydew and raspberry. it good but when it a party don't serve apples, bananas because apples can get brown and ugly look and bananas can be slimy.

Why is FRUIT on an aeroplane not allowed?

Me and a friend were on a flight from New York to London and as we approached London an announcer said...

"Please be ware that you are NOT allowed to bring any fruit or veg into the UK"

Why is this not allowed?

Our supermarkets import fruit and veg in from all over the world but yet normal civilians can't.

Any explanations?

Why is FRUIT on an aeroplane not allowed?
commercial goods are quality controlled and supposedly tightly monitored and the authorities know of any problems that may be in existence,You bringing in foodstuffs willy-nilly isn't a good idea.

Not only that ..........haven't you heard the UK is a police state
Reply:You think that the UK has unfair restrictions. New Zealand is far worse. In fact their customs are so fussy I would not even think of going there even for a free holiday.
Reply:DOH it's so ppl don't smuggle drugs in inside them!
Reply:Diseases and bugs. Insects are frequently imported that way, and can destroy foreign lands in a VERY short time.
Reply:You may be bringing in bugs and diseases to the UK.

All loads of imported fruit and veg are inspected at the ports, and some types are probably fumigated at some point too. The good thing about the UK being an island is that it still doesn't have some of the nastiest agricultural pests and diseases. If a contaminated load is found, it is destroyed immediately.
Reply:This is a rule that has been in effect for quite a while. The main idea is that you aren't supposed to take fruit and vegetables to a foreign place because they could carry a disease, start a new strain of plant in the country of destination, or could harvest some type of bug that could wreak havoc on the crops in the nation you're heading to. It isn't a stupid rule, it's a rule that was put in place to help curb the spread of crop-killing disease(s) and insect(s) to areas that don't have any defense against said diseases and insects.

You *are* allowed to carry fruits and vegetables onboard domestic flights, just not if you're going overseas. This is (just) one of the reasons you have to go through customs inspections when you go overseas.
Reply:ur not allowd fruit n veg because it might have sumat bad in it that will spread..i know.. stupid

Is it really necessary to eat fruit?

I love vegetables but don't enjoy eating fruit. I also feel that my body is sensitive to sugar. Because of this, I feel that when I eat fruit it makes me hungrier than if I didn't eat it at all.

Does fruit really have vitamins that vegetables don't, or will I be okay if I make up for not eating much fruit by eating more vegetables?

(On a side note, I will mention that I have a strong family history of diabetes-both parents and two grandparents developed it in old age. However, I've been tested and so far I do not have it.)

Is it really necessary to eat fruit?
I'm just the opposite, I love eating fruit but have a hard time eating vegetables. You need to include both to get all the nutrients you need, but if not you should take a vitamin. If you stopped eating fruit you would be lacking Vitamin C.
Reply:You are on to a good track with paying attention to your sugar in take.

Most people are actually bi-polar glycimic. Not only do they experience high blood sugar when they eat or eat too much sugary foods but they also experience hyper insulin times where there is too much insulin and not enough sugar in the blood steam (despite what they have eaten).

Smaller meals more often are a good balancing tact. Avoid alcohol which can be worse then high sugar foods (or at least be aware).

In these modern times we get plenty of sugars from foods we do not even realize, and despite the vitamins and fiber in fruit we no longer need it as the quick food source we used to use it as (usually breakfast).
Reply:while its not entirely neccesary to eat fruit if you eating lots of veges it is reccomened, since fruit has higher concentraion of vitamen C, which you need to prevent scurvy

i think you just need to find some fruit that works for you
Reply:get the tropical fruit cups. their my favorite. I guess its necessary but I like it.
Reply:frut is way better that veggies
Reply:The truth is that too much of anything is bad and just as too little. I get this a lot as a personal trainer in the truth is you need it just as much as the veggies, and the difference between the sugar is that this is a natural sugar. Fruit has good carbs and has many benefits in vitamins such as A and C. Great for potassium and an excellent form of energy and a great alternative to cookies and ice cream
Reply:they say veggies are way better than fruits because fruits had lots of sugar in it. i guess as long as you dont boil ur veggies like carrots then the vitamins you need you will def get.
Reply:if you want vitimans.

fruit have some things that vegetables dont. but you dont have to eat them. i'd say vegetables are probably healthier because they dont have as much sugar in them

i think your fine. as long as you dont cut out fruit 100 percent.
Reply:As long as you are eating enough vegetables you should be fine. You may also want to look at what vitamins and minerals you will be lacking like potassium, and vitamin C. You may want to find a supplemental source for them either by taking a multi vitamin or buying enriched foods.

You may want to speak to a nutritionist to make sure that you body is getting enough simple sugars as they are required by the body.
Reply:yes. eat at least one.
Reply:yes fruit have a lot of vitamins that really use for our body and health.it good if you hungrier for fruit but no a food that full of cholesterol and fatty.but remember fruit is good for health and avoid a diabetes because sugar inside the fruit didn't influence your body...
Reply:if u don't eat ur bananas it makes migila gorilla sad :(
Reply:I feel the same way. I *love* veggies, but I just cannot stand most fruits.

I haven't had fruit in...months. And I'm pretty much fine. So I don't think it's that bad... Dietitians will say otherwise, but I don't eat fruit, and I'm still standing.
Reply:Well it is not necesary to eat fruit it is good for you but you dont need it per say it just makes life easier. For instance you just want to eat vegetables to get your vitamins so instead of eating oranges to get vitamin c you decide to eat carrots now to get the amount of vitamin c that one orange which containes 53.2mg vitamin c you have to eat 5 carrots which contain 9.3mg of vitamin c you get what i mean
Reply:just get a multivitamin capsule and you should be fine!
Reply:Fruit is soooo much better that veggies!

Does cooking fruit reduce calories? like if i boil the fruit and drain off the water?.. please read more..?

i accidently over cooked some pears... to the point they have no flavor.. so i was wondering since all the flavor(and the sugar frm the fruit) was drained off, are there less calories now? how many less do you think.

Does cooking fruit reduce calories? like if i boil the fruit and drain off the water?.. please read more..?
The amount of calories in fresh fruits is so small already, I dont think it would make hardly any difference. Natural sugars like what is naturally in fruits are not equal to sugar in a bag that you add to coffee. So to answer, I think the calorie difference would be a very small amount!
Reply:Well yes but who wants to eat it now??
Reply:I think you can boil away nutrients, but it's my experience that a dehyrdated apricot, for example, has as many calories if not more than it used to have because it has become more "calorie dense" by reducing it.

1 apricots = 14 calories

5 dried apricot halves = 90 calories
Reply:I would think so yes, but also the nutritional value must be gone as well... so why eat them?

Where do fruit flies come from?

It's crazy. I mean they appear out of nowhere. How do they know the fruit is there? How do they get in your house if there are no windows or doors open? Do they live in the fruit?

Where do fruit flies come from?
Fruit flies at least those most familiar to us (Drosophila) wait to lay their eggs, seeking out fruit that has begun to ferment. The fruit fly's whole sensory apparatus is devoted to sniffing out the distinctive odors of fermentation that's why you frequently find fruit flies hanging around beer bottles. They generally don't lay their eggs on fresh fruit, though. The larvae feed mostly on yeast, and until a fruit has started to go beyond ripe, there just isn't enough yeast there. The eggs hatch quickly and the larvae develop quickly to make the most of the little time available; a rotting fruit doesn't last very long. If a fruit has started to ferment while in transit or in the market, then it might possibly arrive in your home with eggs or larvae already in it. But if it ripens in your home and then the fruit flies appear, they're new arrivals.
Reply:LOL! I've just got some grapes from the supermarket and my kitchen is swarming with the little ruggers! I blame the supermarkets!

Is eating fruit bad for losing weight?

I have heard that eating fruit when trying to lose weight is bad bcause of all the sugar it contains. Is there a "best" type of fruit?

Is eating fruit bad for losing weight?
It is not bad for losing weight. You just have to eat a right amount, so your body will also burn those carbs it has. To tell you the truth, there is no "best" fruit. They all contain vitamins and minerals, something we all need.

So all in all, just don't eat too much fruit that your body cannont burn all the carbs.

But you defintely want to eat some kind of fruit if you are trying to lose weight, because it provides you with the vitamins and minerals you need.

It is not bad to eat fruit while trying to lose weight!
Reply:It's not bad, the fruit will get out by you pooping so that you can get the nasty stuff in the body go out! Any fruit is very good.
Reply:That's not really true. The only fruit that isn't good when trying to loose wait is bananas, pinapple, and avacado (if you consider it a fruit)
Reply:Fruits and vegetables are always good for you. Together with grains, they form the bottom of the food pyramid that's recommended for good health. If you're dieting and hardly eat, try to avoid sour fruits like oranges as you may get gastric trouble. Eating bulky fruits like apples make you feel full so you eat less of other foods.

Try 100% fruit juice instead. If you can't eat fruit, it's always better not to force it down. You'll be vomiting enough during your pregnancy to cause it yourself!

Does dragon fruit make your bowels black?

I have been eating the red variety of dragon fruit for the past week, and have noticed that my poop have been getting darker in color, in fact its black now. I have not felt anything wrong with my tummy to warrant bloody poop, and my guess is that the dark red coloration of the dragon fruit is the cause.

Does dragon fruit make your bowels black?
I'm unsure of any corralation between eating dragon fruit and black stool. What I do know for sure, is that blood in the stool, without pain, is often the first presenting sign of colon cancer. The test used to detect the presence of blood in stool is called a 'guaiac test'. It is both simple and painless and only requires a very small amount of stool be put on a card that is treated with enzymes. Then a few drops of liquid are used to wet the area and the results are obtained by a color change.

Forget about eating dragon fruit for a couple of days (it shouldn't take any longer than that to get out of your intestines). Then, if your BMs don't return to a normal color GET YOURSELF TO A DOCTOR'S OFFICE!
Reply:stop eating it for a week and see if your poop goes back to normal... then go back on it for a week and see what happens.. if it goes black again then yes it the dragon fruit.
Reply:Most likely you are right.
Reply:I can find NO evidence that eating dragon fruit makes the stool darker in color.. I believe that this fruit contains nitric chemicals (which are good) and it is possible that they cause the stool to turn black...

I used to eat this fruit ALLLLLLLLLLL the time when I was in Asia.. I loved the fruit.. do not know why as it had no taste to speak of.

In all likelihood, the dragon fruit is causing your stool to be darkened but that certainly is not posing any health risks by doing so.
Reply:Why, yes it does. I've been eating dragon fruit for 3 weeks now and if "black is beautiful" like they say, then I just crapped a masterpiece.
