Reply:Grass,Grass,Grass- This should be the main part of a rabbits diet -ie 98%.They should have no more than 1 eggcup full of excel pellets per day. Veg wise leafy greens, carrot tops, chick weed,dandelions- Their is many weeds and different food stuffs which are safe for rabbits to eat. There is actaully a book you can get detailing all of this but im afraid i can not remember the name. The key is moderation-Not too much of one food stuff. You can offer fruit- but small amount now and again as fruit has a high sugar content this can rot there teeth. They also love wood from fruit trees-Make sure it has not been spryed with anything, they like to gnaw it and strip the bark from it.
Reply:try dried grass
Reply:I agree! I like to give my baby variety :]. I wouldn't like to eat the same old thing everyday lol.

Here are some more things you can add to your list!

Carrot tops, the green leafy part.

Parsley.

Oranges, skin and fruity part.

Strawberries, the fruit (as a treat) and green tops.

Silver beet.

Grass! Bonnie's favourite lol!

Celery, stem and leaves.

Watermelon NO seeds.

Corn on the cob (I don't know if you can give them raw or not, I always cook mine and give it to her cold.)

Spinach.

Cabbage (not too much though- just as a treat.)

Green peppers.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head... if you're giving her red apples try green or vice versa.

Also, you can get these things for birds at pet shops that you can give your bunny, they love them! http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5299/... not necessarily that shape but you get what I mean :].
Reply:Alfalfa treats, Timothy Hay, My girl LOVES the flowers or the clovers, and she'll eat the leafs sometimes.
Reply:Parsley. it triggers their appetite. minimum cherries, how old is your rabbit? because rabbits cant eat green vegs and fruit as a whole diet. they need hay(main food source), and limit amounts of pellets. you are having a good idea, but thats not the diet of rabbits, rabbits are born in the wild to eat grass, hay. these helps flush out all hairballs that could get blocked in the intestines causing a infection. If able, feed timothy hay as main meal (timothy hay consists of all the fiber they need to flush their intestines). fresh vegs should be the next important, then pellets, treats and grain. please dont give fresh vegs to rabbits until 3-4 months because it can cause severe diarrhea, their intestines are really sensitive and can not cope with wet food.
Reply:If your rabbit is younger than 4 months, alfalfa hay should be available in the cage at all times. If older than 4 months, then timothy hay. My rabbit also loves romaine lettuce (iceberg is bad for the digestive system), basil, parsley, and chikory. All of these can be found in the fresh produce section at the grocery store. (Parsley is probably the cheapest).

As a special treat, I buy dried strawberries and cut them up into quarters, and give my rabbit a total of no more than 1.5 strawberries per day. Any more could make her sick. She loves this treat, and is even willing to do minimal tricks for them. :)
Reply:there r somegabiles they can eat
Reply:I know nothing about rabbits that doesn't involve either a stock-pot or roasting tin.

You have appallingly bad spelling skills, by the way.

Fruit Flies?

I was just wondering...how do you get rid of fruit flies after you have finished the fruit, but they are still swarming your house?

Fruit Flies?
Take away any food source. Those things have a really short lifespan!

What pureed fruit can i give to my 3 1/2 month old daughter?

I was told that when my baby's 4 months I can start her on cereals and prueed fruit. I breastfeed at the moment but was told that rather than cereals to give fruit. I know that banana is ok, but what other fruits can I give as I'd rather give her fresh than the jars.

What pureed fruit can i give to my 3 1/2 month old daughter?
I started my son on baby fruit at 3 and 1/2 months but it was too acidy for his tummy. The health visitor said some babies can handle it, some can't. Mine obviously can't. I have hime on baby rice in the mornings (just a few spoonfuls) but he's great on it. I would try cereal/rice first. x
Reply:Any fruits you want really. Strawberries are a favourite of my lad, but he also eats apples, oranges, grapes, raisins (not great for pureé).
Reply:Apples and pears are good basics, but don't rush the food. You don't want to risk allergys. My doctor told us to start with the cereal.
Reply:avocado, mashed: loads of mineral and vits. in there.
Reply:NONE, no all wrong. I don't know who is telling you this but you are gonna mess her little belly up. First of all you need to wait until she is SIX MONTHS. Babies bellys can't digest food any earlier than this, you will have a screaming baby on your hands. At six months you need to start her out on cereal. Usually rice cereal and then oatmeal. Give everything different a week between to watch for allergies. Than you need to move onto VEGGIES! First orange veggies like carrots and sweet potatoes, then yellow, like squash, then green like peas and green beans. Like I said, make sure you take a week in between everything new to watch for allergies. You can mix things up once you know she is ok with then. Then after all that you can move onto fruits.
Reply:I recomend trying ceral first. I brestfeed also and started her ceral with a feeder you can buy them at walgreens it kind of maked the transition easier for my daughter. I feed her baby food with a spoon though. Even if you want to use freshh fruits go to he grocery store and look at all the baby foods from gerber that are stage one that will give you ideas of whats been tested for babys starting to eating food. good luck seeing them eat baby food for the first times is a incredible moment
Reply:if you boil apples, pears, plums then mash it kids love that, even mangoes you can buy really squashy ones (no need to boil?
Reply:Go see your paediatrician and if they say it is OK i would get some mush carrots and apple sauce mush corn or peaches and pars but you can also make your own baby food and it will save you money and i is more healthy because some company's but stuff in there water while the food is cooking .get some carrots at the store and boil some water put the carrot in it let the cook until there soft and drain them and smash them with a smasher and if your don't have a smasher a spatula will work the put some butter in it and a little milk the cool in the fridge for a minute.
Reply:You don't need to start her on any foods if your breastfeeding. A breastfed baby doesn't need anything else until they are 2 years old. With that said if you do still want to give her foods, then at least wait until she is 6 months. At 6 months the supply of iron a baby is born with starts to deplete and they can use the supplement they can get from foods.

If you want to then I suggest just buying 1 of everything and trying eat out. It's a good time to experiment :) Since you want it fresh, go see what's in the jars then duplicate what you want to try out. That's really a good thing. Manufacturers add sugars to baby foods. Babies are extra sensitive to sugar and will get to the point where they want things with added sugar if given too may of them in the beginning.

A little fact about babies: Even if they don't appear to like a food at first, when given a food for about 10 times, each time they're given the food they become less resistant to it. So by the 10th time they'll like the food.

Also, by the time a baby is 6 months old their favorite veggie is the french fry. This usually starts with mashed potatoes.
Reply:cooked apple or pair pureed.

mango puree is great!

peaches

apricot

papaya.

you can give veg aswell -

try sweet potato

avacado

carrots

sweetcorn

these vegetable are naturally sweet!
Reply:DolphinFan02 is right!! be careful. make sure to only try one new thing per week, if she become alleric to something it can take upt o a week to show signs, and so if you give her 3 different things you won't know what caused the allergic reaction. my sister in law has a 5 month old and she only just started on veggies. and strawberries they say are one of the last fruits to try, when they are a bit older, apparently it's most common for allergies.
Reply:I started with cereal for a while, then introduced vegetables, and fruits after that. The sweetness of fruits might cause her to be more picky when it comes to eating vegetables, and cereals tend to be an easier transition in eating, as they are more bland and usually mixed with breastmilk or formula.
Reply:i wouldn't start her on fruit until later. rice cereal should be first. you should do veggies (which you can steam and puree) before fruits. otherwise you may have trouble getting your baby to eat other things once she is used to sweet fruits.
Reply:You can puree pear, apple, peach and there's much more. I find pear and apple go great together and are really easy to cook. Hope it helps
Reply:Apples and pears are good, so is giving her orange segments to squish up and suck on...make sure she doesn't choke, though! No need to add sugar to any fruit, I'm sure you know...
Reply:Won't fruit give her wind? I'd stick with baby rice, or organic jars - at least they've been scientfically proven to be OK.
Reply:My ped told me to only start cereals around 2 months and vegetables at 4 months. He said to wait until six months to introduce fruits.

Fruit Acid Dye. What is it and is it permanent on your hair?!?

I put some Fruit Acid Hair Dye on my hair 2 weeks ago, and it didnt really show cause I kinda screwed it up a little. (It's supposed to be purple by the way.)

Now, it's still quite visible under the sun (even though it didn't really work well, but it did work a little). If my teachers catch me with that, i'm dead.

My mom got me some Thai brand product so I can't read **** from it except the name and some instructions. It came off my hands in 2 days. (Yes, I didn't use a glove, stupid me) But my hair still has this purplish glow under the sun and when I'm not under the sun it has a very light purple colour.

Someone care to explain what the hell is Fruit Acid Dye? Or isit just a name?! AHHH!

I'm seriously panicking now.

Fruit Acid Dye. What is it and is it permanent on your hair?!?
Hmmm...Im not sure exactly what that product is that you used. But here are some tips to try at home to remove hair dye:

* Wash hair with hot water

* Use a clarifying shampoo or Head and Shoulders or Prell

* Use liquid dish detergent or liquid laundry soap

Good luck :)

Yogert without chunks of fruit in it?

I love yogert but I do not like it when it has fruit chunks in it. I like the fruit flavors just not the fruit in it. does any one know of a brand that has no chunks in it? I hate vanilla flavored ones. I've tried store brands- foodlion giant ect- but they have just as much a breyers %26amp; yoplait. the only thing I've found is kids yogert, but I figure they arent as good for you.

so 2 questions, any brands without fruit chunks %26amp; is kids yogert as good as regular yogert (trix, yoplait kids ect)

Yogert without chunks of fruit in it?
Danone is good. So is Safeway brand (Lucerne).
Reply:Ewww, I hate the chunks they are so gross. I love the Trix little kid ones. I find it very hard to find yogurt without chunks unless it's vanilla or a little kids brand.
Reply:Yoplait is good, there are lots of varieties and flavors as well.
Reply:You could always buy the plain (not vanilla- just plain white) and flavor it yourself.

I cannot think of any brands off the top of my head that don't have the chunks of fruit...oh wait. What about the Yoplait whipped kind? I don't think that has chunks.

Since we're on the subject, you do realize that any yogurt with fruit in it is not all that good for you, right? When they add the artificial flavors, colors and "fruit", it adds a LOT of sugar and chemical extras that sort of defeat the purpose of eating yogurt in the first place.

I no longer eat it, but when I did, I purchased the plain white type and added what I wanted just for that very reason.

Good luck.
Reply:trixs is good stuff

Bowl of fruit salad vs big warm fried jam donut. which would u pick ? be honest please.?

don't just say the fruit salad cos you wanna come across as all 'healthy' and stuff, unless of course you ARE an avid lover of fruit salads. Its just that on campus, the kids who are health fanatics gave me funny looks when I walked towards a table with a nice fresh donut on my tray - almost like 'god, all thats going straight into this bloodstream , ack so unhealthy' heh.

surely its my god given right to enjoy a donut over a fruit salad right ? i mean, its tastier...

Bowl of fruit salad vs big warm fried jam donut. which would u pick ? be honest please.?
I am trying to eat healthy. I would pick the fruit, but would prefer the pastry.
Reply:I would pick the fruit salad and not cause I am a health nut. I just don't like donuts!! But, if you like them, go for the donut!!
Reply:I like hot donuts but don't eat them often, hadn't had one for years, now you've made me want one!
Reply:You're not looking at the big picture. Eventually your food choices wil catch up with you.

When i was a kid my mom foced health food on me. I ate brown bread, had cod liver oil supplements, and wheat germ in my orange juice in the morning. I was slim and and strong.

I left my parents home and immediately started eating junk food. It didn't take long for me to become overweight and lethargic.

I'm 43 now and have diabetes. The diabetes has caused my kidneys to fail. I have dialysis 3 times a week, four hours a session.

So my answer is definetly the fruit salad. Not because I want to come across as healthy, (it's too late for that) but because I know first-hand how poor food choices can end up screwing up your life.
Reply:yes its your right to chose what you eat but I would go for the fruit salad to be honest.
Reply:I would eat both for sure! Jam donut with fruit salad. Its a win win situation.
Reply:Fried jam donut!!! We all know everyone would choose the same... If they are honest.
Reply:Donut every time. And to the people who say fruit salad can I have your donut?
Reply:honestly, i'd pick the fruit salad. i'm not a health nut, but i am a vegan (long story short i'm picky as hell about what i eat and i break out just looking at anything with preservatives/animal products etc).

if i knew for a fact the donut had absolutely no animal products in it then i'd pick it.... unless the fruit salad had lots of strawberries and watermelon in it cos i adore them and they win out every time ;)
Reply:I think that eating both, first the fruit salad and then the donut, is a great idea.
Reply:Listen, of course the eye glazes first at the Donut because of its looks, and taste. But me myself i would go for the fruit salad because i always try to watch over my weight, and fruits dont stick into the body like a donut does. For exaple, lets just say right now you have a donut in front of you, you will say to yourself, 'gosh i dont care about my weight at this momment because that looks delicious' and you'll eat it... and the next morning when you wake up you wont taste the donut anymore and know that you have this big thingin your stomach, when you could have just not eaten it and the next morning be proud of yourself and say yes! i was strong and didnt eat it! well thats my point of view :)

Fruit flush diet question?
Don't go on this diet. Your muscles will not change though. Don't go purely on fruit, you need protein et cetera.
Reply:i did this too but it really didnt do anything with my muscles. i lost like 5 pounds and it took a while so i dont know if losing 40 is too healthy..

just keep doing weight training and you shouldnt lose any muscle

Fruit and bloating stomach?

i have just bought a great juicing machine,so obviously i am getting plenty of fruit lately, but have found my stomach feels really bloated, cant understand it as my diet is perfectly healthy, and now am getting loads of every kind of fruit, and i actually feel fatter for all i exercise 1 hour 3 times a week, any tips would be appreciated ,thanks

Fruit and bloating stomach?
I have the same problem as you. My doctor told me it's because fruit (along with veggies and whole grains) contains cellulose which the human body can't digest. If you buy Beano, it contains an enzyme that breaks all that good stuff down and it makes a huge difference. It's not very expensive and you can get it at the grocery store. It's not a bad problem to have, it just means you have a very healthy diet!

edit: when you eat foods that have fiber it also helps to eat in small portions to lessen the symptoms.
Reply:Juice more Vegetables - OTT on the fruit is making you feel the way you do!!!
Reply:i cant eat fruit (generally) as it sets my irritable bowel syndrome off. juice is even worse
Reply:Too much fruit becomes hard to digest and starts to ferment in the stomach causing gas and bloating.
Reply:you mite be eating too much fruit?when we have somthing new we always go overbord, cut down and just use the amounts it tells you.you mite feel ,fruit is good, but it holds a lot of suger if u eat a lot of fruit.

Fruit tarts in Portland, Or?

I am trying to find a fruit tart in Portland for my birthday tomorrow. I like one with a buttery crust and sweet cheese filling with fresh fruit. Can any one help?

Fruit tarts in Portland, Or?
Grand Central Bakery on Hawthorne does hand pies in a couple of different fruit fillings. Spread it with some cream cheese or, better, Mascarpone, and you're there.

Happy Birthday.

Fruit picking in SE Queensland?

Hi!

My boyfriend and I want to go fruit picking - not as a job, but just to visit open farms and pay to pick your own fruit and take it home! There used to be a place in the Gold Coast hinterland where you could go blueberry picking, but it's not there any more.

Any info would be great!!

Thanks :)

Fruit picking in SE Queensland?
I starred your question hoping someone else would answer, as I haven't got much info, but as they haven't so far I'll give it a go.

The only fruit-growing place I know in SE Qld [apart from the pineapple plantations in the Glasshouse mountains region], is the Granite Belt, with its capital in Stanthorpe. Grapes, apples, peaches and other cool-climate fruits are grown there as the region is elevated and much cooler than most of Qld. It's a really picturesque area and well worth a visit, quite different from the Gold Coast. Please note, it's FROSTY in winter!

Fruit Kabobs?

I want 2 do fruit kabobs 4 a party and I'm thinking about preparing them the day/night b-4. How do I keep the fruit fresh?

Fruit Kabobs?
fruit kebabs... keep them fresh on a flat tray in the fridge and cover them with cling film or tinfoil. make sure you don't squash them though.

You could also add a sprinkle of lemon juice to the fruits so they do not turn brown.
Reply:I would do the fruit in advance, except for melon, and place it in separate plastic storage bags. The melon has such a high water content that I would wait until the day of.
Reply:make it like a hour before the party and then put the kabobs in zip lock bags.

You could try kiwi, strawberrys, chedder cheese and green granny smith apples.
Reply:Peel and chop the fruit and cover in water and lemon juice.
Reply:Put all of one kind of fruit seperate from the others, then rearrange in the morning.
Reply:Squeeze lemon juice over the fruit to prevent them from browning. Place in airtight container.
Reply:covered in the fridge

Fruit tetra fish?

ok...last weekend i bought two fruit tetras(one pink and one blue)they are still alive after one week and i have them in a regular bowl with no filter thing but i recently brought my fish two my parents house and they wont get off my back about there oxegyn so heres my question.............do my fruit tetras need a filter to live or is the oxegyn in the water good enough?or...do they breathe the oxegyn in the air.....

Fruit tetra fish?
Your parents are right. All fish need to derive oxygen from the water in which they live. Only a few types can breathe in atmospheric oxygen (from the air we breathe) and they do that only to supplement what they receive from the water.

Next, all fish need filtration in order to live their longest and best. You are quite lucky these fish are even still alive! But your luck won't last much longer if you don't get them in a properly outfitted tank. You may ask the shop where you bought them if you can return them while you get the tank set up and allow it to go completely through its nitrogen cycle. That cycle takes about 6-8 weeks if you lack any gravel, ornaments, filter media or other material from a tank which is already well-cycled. You aren't ready for fish yet.

Lastly, 'fruit' tetras are not naturally those colors. They are white skirt tetras (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) which have been injected with dye by companies which are just trying to make more money. This is a cruel practice and it also leaves the fish which survive (many die during the injections) much more vulnerable to infections and shortened lifespan than those tetras left to their natural coloration.

With these factors combined, I am sorry to say, your fish probably won't live long. Please check with your shop and ask them to accept the fish back. If you are really wanting to keep tropical fish, please consult a recent well-written book on the topic of establishing a new aquarium. In the US there is one by David Boruchowitz (publisher is TFH Publications) called "The super simple guide to freshwater aquariums." It's great!

Good luck to you and your fish.
Reply:Yes they and all other fish extract oxygen from the water through their gill membranes. This is part of their respiratory system. All fish should have a filter to keep their water clean and make it a suitable enviorment by extract dirt and waste by products from the water.
Reply:YES YES YES! Your tetras need to be in schools of 6 or more, need a 10 gallon tank, and a heater and filter. You should of done more research before you buy any fish. Your tank also needs to be cycled.
Reply:All fish need oxygen so you should get a bubble disc or something like that. Also you should not keep fish in bowls it is not a very sufficent tank, expecially for tetras who like lots of space to swim. You should also include a filter.
Reply:Tetras are tropical fish they need a heater (they like the water around 76 or so) and a filter too. There are very few types of fish that you can safely keep in a bowl without heat and filtration. For a short time they might survive, but they really need the heat and clean clear water with a constant temperature. If you can set them up in a small aquarium with a little heater and small filter. They will thank you for it.

Schillings and fruit...show all work to be voted best answer?

Herr Vitami buys 3 kinds of fruit for 40 schillings, 10 schillings, and 1 schilling each. He pays 259 schillings for 100 pieces of fruit. How many of the cheapest kind of fruit did he buy?

Schillings and fruit...show all work to be voted best answer?
Let's visualise these by size, Water Melons cost 40 schillings, apples cost 10 schillings and cherries cost 1 schilling each.

Suppose our Austrian fruit and veg merchant buys 100 cherries at 1 schilling each, he spends 100 schillings. For the bigger fruit he puts a cherry back on the stall and takes a water melon instead for 39 further schillings, or ditto an apple for 9 further schillings.

So we ask "is 39 a factor of 159 (259 - 100)?" and "is 9 a factor of 159?" and the answer is No as 159 is prime. So we have to rule out solutions that involve buying no water melons and solutions that involved buying no apples.

We notice that 4 water melons is the maximum as 4 x 39 = 156 and more than that would burst the budget.

1 water melon would mean 120 schillings for apples but 120 (modulo 9) = 3

3 water melons would mean 42 schillings for apples but 42 (modulo 9) = 6

2 water melons would mean 81 schillings for apples and 81 (modulo 9) = 0 (it is 9 squared)

So clearly the answer is 2 water melons, 9 apples and 89 cherries remain having swopped 11 pf them for larger items of fruit.
Reply:89 (the number of cheapest fruit must end in a 9)

259-89=170

2x40=80

170-80=90

89 fruit at 1 schilling

9 fruit at 10 schilling

2 fruit at 40 schilling

gives you 100 fruit for 259 schilling.

Fruit diet?

i've heard of the fruit diet...or the fruit fast. what is it?

is it a way to lose weight?

Fruit diet?
You can Lose 9 lbs every 11 days after you know these facts:

Low Fat Foods DON'T WORK.........

You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.

Low Calorie Diets DON'T WORK........

You won't lose weight using a Low Calorie Dieting Plan either. In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body's fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt --- known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.

Low Carb Plans DON'T WORK.......

You'll probably find it extremely difficult to get slim using a Low Carb Dieting Plan. Low carb diets have recently become popular over the last couple years, but the problem with low carb menus is that they are too strict and TOO HARD TO FOLLOW for average people. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long. This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu.

In fact, the food that you eat can either make you THIN or FAT!!!

Fruit Basket Thing?

Does anyone know the name of that company that delivers not exactly fruit baskets, but fruit made designed in a beautiful tower pattern. I always see the truck driving around with the name on it, but I can't remember the name right now for some reason. I want to send one to one of my friends. She always talked about how cool the company was, and how she looked online at it, and how she was going to send herself one. It was a company that pretty much delivered fruite towers to people. Fruit flies in the men's room?

anybody have any ideas on why our building has fruit flies in the men's rooms? Yep, good old Drosophila melanagastor - same as Bio 102 lab. (And save yourself the trouble - don't say because there are fruits there.)

Fruit flies in the men's room?
It's because urine (especially if one or more of your employees has diabetes) has sugars in it - as does fruit. Fruit flies like sugar (not fruits).
Reply:lol. I have no idea, but that was a cute joke in parenthesis. Thanks for the laugh.
Reply:Well, if they are what I think they are... do you have showers in the men's room? I know up at college we had a bunch of knat-y looking things because the shower area would get very hot and humid.
Reply:I don't know if these are actually fruit flies, but I know in the bathroom in the school I work in, there would be these little annoying fly-type things, and I was told from the custodian that water had to poured down the drain in the floor. I can't remember why, but the whole idea of those bugs being in the bathroom really grosses me out....

What is the best fruit to pick?

I'm planning to do a fruit picking job and thought whether there are some fruits picking of which lead to bad physical consequences... Like strawberry requires lot of kneeing.... Apples require lot of jumping, well, at least looking up all the time, which will in the end lead to neck problems I guess.... Am I right?

So what is the best fruit to pick? Actually is there any fruit that could be easier picked by climbing on it's tree? I don't think farmers want you to climb... not right time, isn't it? Or am I right again?

Anyways, if you have some advisable picking places you've been to I'm very grateful if you told me. No matter what country, except that preferable in the europe...

What is the best fruit to pick?
I've picked apples in Michigan in the U.S. and it was fine. Of course it was just for a couple of hours, but it wasn't hard. I found it quite easy and I had no pain later on. You don't have to jump for them as you stated.

How far ahead can I cut fruit ?

I have always cut fruit the same day that I was to serve it. But I need to know if I can make a fruit salad two days ahead of serving it. I know to use Fruit Fresh to keep it from turning brown, but how will it taste that far ahead? What about putting the fruit into separate bags and putting it together the night before? I want to use strawberries, berries, pineapple, melons, grapes, citrus fruits and kiwi. I know not to try bananas..

How far ahead can I cut fruit ?
Cutting everything a day ahead and storing them separately until the day of the event is the answer. The more acidic fruits will begin to break down the less acidic if you mix the fruit the night before. You will loose a lot of the moisture in the fruit, and get a soup of liquid at the bottom. It is quick and easy to put it all together right before you serve it. If possible, rinse and cut the strawberries at the last moment. Also, if the kiwis are ripe, instead of mixing them into the salad, use them on top as a decoration. Ripe kiwis then to fall apart very easily. Be careful about the berries. Use a solid one like blueberries. Blackberries, raspberries and the like will turn to mush quickly if you stir the fruit mixture together.

For an unusual and decorative touch, you can use a clear glass bowl (never plastic) for the fruit salad, and place each fruit in a layer into the bowl, with the kiwi layer on the top, and the fresh berry layer right below it. This gives it a classier look, in case you want to step up the presentation. Do not use any lemon or sugars, as they will degrade the quality of the fruit rather quickly. Personally, I would leave out the citrus as it's difficult to get it to come out into sections without spending a lot of time, and you sound like you'd like to save some time if possible.
Reply:Covered and kept from air, it should keep two days. After you have made the salad, spray it with filtered lemon juice (use a coffee filter). The citric acid in the lemon juice will keep the colors from ''turning''. Don't add your juice (orange, apple or whatever) until you are ready to serve. Otherwise the fruit will get soggy. GGAAAKKKK!!!! Good luck!
Reply:If you add lemmon juice or a similar acid, it will keep the fruit from turning brown.
Reply:go buy some freaking fruit salad already put in a container
Reply:For the most part, just make sure to add some lemon or lime juice to keep it from turning brown. Beware of freezing, though -- some fruits will do alright, but strawberries and citrus fruits can get really mushy when you thaw them out.
Reply:you can cut it up to a few days before you want it, the trick is to put lemmon juice over it when your done so it stays fresher longer. and it doesn't get brown.
Reply:You can cut the melons, pineapple and the grapes 2 days( but 1 would be better) ahead but the rest I would cut the night before or the morning of the event. Don't freeze it because it causes it to go transparent when it thaws.
Reply:a day or 2 at the most depending on storage

How is fruit cocktail juice made, and which fruits taste good together?

also which fruits taste good together when making a fruit salad.

How is fruit cocktail juice made, and which fruits taste good together?
A cocktail is basically a blend of things. So a fruit cocktail is drink made by blending different fruits together.

My domestic helper makes a mean fruit salad with grapes, mango, red apple and starfruit. :)

What is difference between a organic fruit and a normal fruit of a tree?

becasue fruit is fruit

fruit is healthy, its naturally comes from trees like vegatables are natural.

so whats all this organic crap that is costing more when we dont need organic fruit.

so what the difference between natural and organic vegetables aswell?

What is difference between a organic fruit and a normal fruit of a tree?
organic means no chemicals have been sprayed on the fruit to stop pests. it is the same if you have an apple tree in your back yard and do not treat it with any pesticides. Organic takes more hands on growing and reg. fruit they just spray everything with pesticides and leave it. So what you are paying for is a higher quality of food.the way nature intended. OH no did I just sound like a commercial? LOL!
Reply:organic is without pesticides
Reply:personally no difference, but organic is supposed to be grown naturally and normal has chemicals.
Reply:organic fruit is grown with out pest-asides normal fruit is
Reply:Basically organic fruit is left alone. Non organic fruit will have been sprayed with insecticide and possibly even been genetically modified to be larger than it would naturally and to have more colour.
Reply:I can't explain as well as someone else will but like hemp, it's not the same now as it was 45 years ago.

Fruit salad recipe?

My mom used to make this fantastic fruit salad, but has since lost the recipe. I know all the ingredients (I think) but I'm not sure about the ratio. It contains marshmallows, mandarin oranges, fruit cocktail, pineapple, whip cream, cherries, and cream cheese. Does anyone have this recipe or a similar one? Thanks!

Fruit salad recipe?
In mine I use sour cream, but here's the recipe!

2 cans chunky pineapple

2 cans fruit cocktail

2 cans tropical fruit cocktail

4 cans mandarin oranges

1 large container sour cream

1 bag miniature marshmallows

1 small jar Maraschino cherries

Drain the liquid from all the cans of fruit. Thin the sour cream with whichever fruit juice you would like. Mix all the ingredients together with the thin sour cream.
Reply:everything in moderation. ample amounts of all of the fruit. a few scoops of cream cheese. as many marshmallows to suit your fancy. and whip cream piled high. theres no wrong way to make a fruit salad everything thing is based on preference. chop the fruit up nice and pretty and dive in spoon first.
Reply:Ambrosia....

INGREDIENTS

1 (11 ounce) can mandarin oranges

1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained

3 bananas, sliced

2 cups flaked coconut

2 cups miniature marshmallows

1 cup pecan pieces

1 (16 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

1 cup maraschino cherries

DIRECTIONS

In a large bowl, combine mandarin oranges, crushed pineapple, bananas, coconut, marshmallows, and pecan pieces. Fold in whipped topping. Garnish with maraschino cherries. Chill for 1 hour or overnight.
Reply:My mother made *Five Cup Salad*... You add a cup of mandarin oranges, a cup of crushed pineapple, a cup of sour cream. a cup of,marshmallows and a cup of coconut. Double triple the recipes if you like. You can also add nuts and cherries. If you don't like sour cream use cool whip. Chill and serve.
Reply:ya thats how i do mine -the cream cheese

I gotta try that .
Reply:i leave out the cool whip and cream cheese and i use sour cream instead its really great
Reply:my mom made a very similar (ours had pineapple, mandarin oranges, shredded coconut, marshmallows, sour cream and whipped cream). Fruit Flies!?!? Please answer ASAP!?

What is the difference between wild type fruit flies and vestigial type fruit flies?

Fruit Flies!?!? Please answer ASAP!?
Fruit flies float around fruit. Vestigial type fruit flies float around your vestigials.

Where do fruit flies come from? How do they "APPEAR" whenever you have fruit laying around?

I wash my fruit and everything. Yet whenever I put grapes or cut open a pear or something like that, within a very short period of time, fruit flies are turning up. How did they get there?

Where do fruit flies come from? How do they "APPEAR" whenever you have fruit laying around?
What Pushy said. The eggs are laid in the skin of the fruit. Keeping fruit in the fridge impedes the growth. Organic fruits are worse.
Reply:well the fruit flies come in from a variety of places, one of them being the great outdoors. THey could be in your house the whole time and only come out when they smell something they like!!

also even in rinsing your fruit, there is still a chance they were brought into your house from the grocery store.

It does feel like they just appear, and it sucks because they can lay eggs without a mate...therefore if you start to have a problem with them kill them immeadatly!! there is no such thing as one gnat!

%26lt;3s
Reply:think they're produced in overnight garbage or in dirty fridges.
Reply:Well, first there's a male fruit fly, and then he finds his self a female fruit fly.....
Reply:That's one of the mysteries of life which I've wondered about also. Since they don't show up unless the fruit is there, I figure they must come with it. I think there are tiny fruit fly eggs that come with the fruit which hatch. They may be around the stem, or on the skin, but that's my theory. They are a pesky mystery though.
Reply:Our friend the fruit fly...drysophilla is its scientific name appears when fruit/vegetables or just about any food laden with carbs is aging. These flies appear mostly in warmer climates and/or kitchens so if your area is warm, you will see them if your carbs start aging. The larvae of the fruit fly lie inert in kitchen areas and will fly about when hatched, especially when they smell something they would love to eat...like bananas and apples, etc. But before we curse these little guys, we must remember that they have been used for decades in scientific laboratories in experiments involving genetics and disease cures!
Reply:they lay their eggs on the skin of the fruit. washed or not .. they're there.

Where do fruit flies come from? Do they come from bananas? How do you kill a fruit fly you can't catch?

I hate that I'll buy bananas for my son, and they'll last forever, but all the sudden near the day when you have to eat that banana or start making bread, we'll see fruit flies everywhere. Then by the time we bring new bananas into the home, there are already fruit flies and the bananas we have get all spotty and decompose faster than the other ones by almost half!!! It's wasting bananas! I hate those little flies!!!

Where do fruit flies come from? Do they come from bananas? How do you kill a fruit fly you can't catch?
Trap the fruit flies in a jar like this:

Take any jar and put some bait in the bottom: a little bit of banana, some vinegar, a a thin layer of wine or beer ... all of those work.

Roll a piece of paper into a funnel shape keeping the point of the funnel really small - just barely bigger than a fruit fly.

Tape the funnel into the mouth of the jar leaving no way to get in or out but the hole in the funnel. The flies go in but can't figure out how to get out. This really works!

Sometimes I have gone after them with the dust buster. That works, too.
Reply:The fruit that we buy has bug eggs in them from being grown outside...and when the fruit sits around for a while, or its too warm the eggs hatch and results in fruit flies....maybe you could set a fly insect bomb off in the kitchen..you can get them from walmart... I'd try to keep my bananas in a storage container
Reply:Everyone thinks I am nuts--I read this in the paper and it is true--put your bananas in the refridge. and they turn black but the fruit is still good as opposed to letting it rot on the counter--I do it and it is great they don't rot and they don't get riper.
Reply:The fruit fly trap described by several above is definitely very effective.

I've found that cheap red wine (which is basically just rotten fruit juice) works the best as a bait.

Reducing their food sources also greatly limits their numbers. Keep fruit in bags or bins. Also check for other things they might be going for. My Mom had a huge problem with fruit flies until I figured out she had a little bin where she was keeping scraps intended for the compost pile - and the fruit flies were loving it. Once we got rid of the compost bin, the problem disappeared.
Reply:The fruit flies lay their eggs just under the top layer of the skin of the fruit, bananas included.

You should put all fruit except bananas in the fridge. Bananas should be kept on the counter, but keep them in a plastic bag. It cuts down on the whole breeding cycle.

Keep a fly swatter handy and chase them down with that, you'll have much more success killing them that way. If the swatter is out of reach, use your hands, but don't swat too fast. The rush of air as your hands come together can push the little buggers out from between your hands.

If they're totally out of control, get some fly strips and hang them for a couple of days. Then just stay on top of them after you get them down to a just a few.

GL, I know how frustrating they are, drive me nuts too. The only thing that really works is keeping their food sources to NIL!
Reply:Where they come from:

Those little speckled spots, when the banana is ripe, are areas of eggs that hatch those flies.

How to catch those fruit flies:

Get a tall drinking glass with small bit of vinegar at the bottom. Now make a paper cone out of paper and tape. Make sure that the point of the cone is open like a funnel.

Place the cone into the glass so that the pointed end is facing down, but not touching the vinegar. Make sure that the opposite end is larger than the mouth of the glass.

The flies will fly into the glass, but are too stupid to figure out how to get out.

If a fruit is seedless, does that make it a vegetable?

Since fruit is defined as having seeds, perhaps there should be a different phrase used instead of the oxymoron "seedless fruit."

Fruit cake for Xmas?

Did anyone actually get fruitcake for Xmas? Does anyone actually even LIKE fruit cake? EWWWWWW I think its absolutely ickey!!! Im all for cake- chocolate-strawberry- JUST NOT nasty hard as a brick fruit cake!

Fruit cake for Xmas?
well, its traditional... since chickens dont lay eggs in the winter(real chickens not the ones they have laying all the time) the only way the colonists could have cake for christmas was to make it with preserved fruits(the candied fruit in the cake) nuts and eggs months before christmas and pour brandy on it every week or so until christmas, that way they could celebrate in style...

but im not a fan of it....

Reply:Ewee. Fruit cake
Reply:A long time ago my aunt used to give us one at Christmas. I thought it was disgusting and suggested that she make a house of it (hard and nasty!) But since I have gotten older... I like it when its made by someone that knows what they are doing... and only in small pieces with a cup of tea.. btw its not always hard as a rock! The good ones are moist enough to eat... Its an "acquired" taste... Although most of the ones you buy SHOULD be used as bricks in a house that's for sure!
Reply:I didn't get any fruitcake, but I like a good one. I usually make my own from the Fruitcake Cockaigne recipe in 'Joy of Cooking'. I've never had any complaints when I use them as gifts..
Reply:Unfortunately, most people do not get fruitcake for Xmas any more (except possibly for Swiss Colony or other online sites). Real fruitcake is made by hand months before Christmas, continually soaked in some kind of alcohol (brandy or other spirits depending on your culture and recipe) - that's why it should NEVER be hard! By the time Christmas arrives, it is no longer a 'cake', but a slice of fruit/nut laden dessert more like a candy than cake. Anyone who has ever had a slice of real, properly prepared fruitcake would NEVER describe it as a 'brick' - and it can contain both chocolate (chunk chips) and strawberries (dried and re-moistened).
Reply:No No No. My aunt always sends me one around Christmas and I pass it on to someone I know who likes it!
Reply:Yeah we had fruit cake for Christmas, I don't think Christmas would be the same with out it.
Reply:Thats enough to make me barf up everyting in my stomach LOL gross stuff

Fruit Flies!! EVERYWHERE!! GRRRRRRRR?

Ok I have tried EVERYTHING. Bleach, lysol, other cleaning supplies. I move my fruit into the fridge (which really sux). Yet they never seem to go away. I am really really really really frustrated. Does anyone know of any way to get rid of them besides keeping fruit away and cleaning constently? PLEASE! I'm going to turn Rambo soon!

Fruit Flies!! EVERYWHERE!! GRRRRRRRR?
set out a cup of apple cider vinegar with a few squirts of dish soap. They are attracted to the apple cider vinegar (so white vinegar will not work) and then when they get in there, the dish soap bogs down their wings so they can't fly and they drown. Pretty gruesome huh? mwa-ha ha ha! I hate those things!
Reply:Just like you %26amp; I flies need moisture to survive -

* Spray insecticide where ever it's dark %26amp; there is moisture. They live in drain holes (bathrooms, kitchens, Laundries etc).

* Also try using fly paper,

* Or use an insect bomb, ensure you turn off all naked flames - or else you'll blow your house up; That will get rid off them anyway!!!

Good Hunting..
Reply:Flying insect spray will kill them but to keep them away you have to keep all food put away and make sure your trash is emptied. They love to reproduce in milk as well as fruit. I even read that you should make sure your sink drain is clean because they will reproduce there too. They don't live long so if they don't have a place to reproduce they will be gone in a hurry
Reply:The only thing that i have ever done that worked is this: I put all food and drinks away and then i opened every window (you have to open the screens too) in the house for about 2 hours. And I never saw another fruit fly. This was in the late fall in Maryland. It was a little bit cold and a little windy. I don't know if these factors explain why opening the windows worked. But it did.
Reply:Do you have house plant′s? They could be Gnats. They look like fruit flies. If you do have house plant′s , then let the dry out for a week or put them outside in the sun for a couple of hr′s. Gnats live of the fresh soil and dead roots from the plant′s, also put the stopper in the kitchen sink before going to bed. This way they will have no damp place to hide nor will they have any water to drink
Reply:electric fly swatter
Reply:I have tried a fruit fly repellant candle, available from a home decorating and floraculture company known as All Things Bright and Beautiful.... contact them at: allthingsbrightandbeautiful@rogers.com (should be rogers.com)

They worked great for us.

good luck!
Reply:Sticky fly paper (you can get a 4- or 6-pack as the $1 store) and setting out a glass with a sweet drink in it...the fruit flies go in there and drown in the water. Make sure to take your trash out daily and clean out your sink really well, too.

I've also found if you fill a spray bottle with soapy water and spray the flies, they'll fall down and you can squish them with a paper towel. A little gross, but it's a little faster than waiting for them to fly into the sticky paper.

In the meantime, if you want to keep your fruit out of the fridge, you can get those screen picnic covers to keep the flies away from your fruit.

Fruit of the loom logo?

Ok i get it is called fruit of the loom, it includes grapes and apples and,a vegtble i think.I was just wondering what was he?I think he is cabbage,if so why is cabbage with the fruit of them loom?

Fruit of the loom logo?
no, it was spinach
Reply:There are four fruits. The 1893-developed logo includes:

Purple grapes

Green grapes

Apple

Gooseberries or currants (according to the dictionary, they are the same thing, or at least both belong to the bush genus "ribes")

In addition to the fruit, on the commercials, there is a character who appears to be a bunch of leaves, which matches with the leaves accompanying the fruit on the logo. These leaves look the most like tobacco leaves in real life, but some assert that they are fig leaves, which traditionally cover the same area of the body as Fruit of the Loom products do. The company only says that they are leaves.

Fruit cake?

Does anyone have a fruit cake recipe that uses REAL fruit and not the candied yucky stuff? I saw a cooking show once that made it but can't remember which one it was. I know it had pineapple in it but thats about it.

Fruit cake?
Use a normal recipe just swap the candied fruit for real fruit.

Grated apples, grated pears, and pineapple would work.

Fruit salad recipe? The one I'm looking for is 100% fruit, no cool whip or marshmellows.?

I've had it twice, once as a kid, then again last year after my granny funeral. Don't know who made it so can't get the recipe there. It had just about every fruit there is in it in juice. Not sure if teh juice is added or natural. Hope you can help!

Fruit salad recipe? The one I'm looking for is 100% fruit, no cool whip or marshmellows.?
Well if it was just about every friut, just buy some of every friut. Wash chop and mix together. Add either some water, lemon juice and sugar to taste for the juice, or pour over some fizzy lemonade. Hey presto!
Reply:My Mum uses orange juice as the liquid for her fruit salads and then uses various fruits, apples, pears, grapes, strawberries, kiwi fruit, oranges and anything else she can get her hands on. It's always lovely and you can vary the quantities of any one fruit when it's in or out of season. You can also use a different juice for the base, pineapple would be nice.
Reply:there is sugar in this but u don't need to add it

This fruit salad combines chopped peaches, strawberries, bananas, and red and green grapes, dressed with a simple fresh lime and pineapple juice dressing.

INGREDIENTS:

6 peaches, peeled, pitted, and chopped

1 pound strawberries, rinsed, hulled, and sliced

1/2 pound seedless green grapes

1/2 pound seedless red grapes

3 bananas, peeled and sliced

1/2 cup granulated sugar, or less, to taste

.

Dressing:

juice of one lime

1/2 cup pineapple juice

1 teaspoon ground ginger

PREPARATION:

Combine chopped and sliced fruits in a large serving bowl; toss gently. Sprinkle with sugar. Whisk together remaining ingredients in a small bowl or 1 cup measure. Pour dressing mixture over fruit and toss gently to combine.

Cover and chill the fruit salad thoroughly before serving.

This fruit salad recipe makes enough to serve about 10 to 12 people
Reply:probably natural. Heres the recipe:

go to the store and buy a bunch of fruit and cut it up and put it in a bowl
Reply:just cut up the fruit and add juice, pineapple, apple, cherry, whatever. Or they may have cut the fruit up and added sugar and let sit overnight. We make strawberries like that and the sugar causes the fruit to juice! Good Luck!

Reply:FYI - if it's got cool whip or marshmellows.. it's not fruit salad.

just pick out some nice fruits (melons, apples, pineapple, naval oranges, grapes (seedless green and red), grapefruit (red is really nice, or pink), strawberries, etc. Wash, and cut up into a big bowl that you can cover... even if it's covering with plastic wrap.

If you can, pick up some orange liquere (Cura?ao, Grand Marnier, Cointreau) and put a little in the salad. If not, add a little pineapple juice, or orange juice or both. Mix and cover well and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. If you like you can toss in a little sugar if you like it sweeter. As for the natural juices, adding the juices as I suggested is an option. See how it looks without it for about an hour. Then if you still think it needs some liquid, add some or both of the juices.
Reply:You add about 2-3 cups of yogurt. Cherry, blueberry...whatever. Then all the fruits you want.
Reply:hi there,

cut your fruits, add sugar stir, keep cool and let sit, 30 min. add some balsamic vinegar and serve,

or add a shot of sherry and a fruit liquor, sugar fruits first,

or add apple cider

Fruit Flies Everywhere!?

Well they started with the occasional halfs of bananas that always get left around my house, and they seemed confined to the kitchen. I was ok with that, since the situation still seemed in control. well I've been more careful with the rotting fruit, yet the fruit flies are still here. now there in my bedroom, and in the bathroom, hell there everywhere! The kitchen seems to be the worst, with clouds of them flying around attempting to gain entrance to my mouth, how can I rid my self of this scourge?

Fruit Flies Everywhere!?
For more information go to link listed below.

Hi, I accidentally discovered an easy non-toxic way to kill fruit flies. Leave a glass of champagne sitting on the counter, ideally in a shallow wide mouthed glass NOT in a champagne flute (more surface area.) The fruit flies will swarm into it and die happy. Okay it was Italian Asti not real champagne, but I don't think they care.

We bring large quantities of old produce through our kitchen (it doesn't all go into the compost, some gets eaten) so fruit flies are a recurring problem.

A glass of cider vinegar mixed with some water and a few drops of dish soap will also do the trick.

Yup, or beer/fruit juice etc. To improve effectiveness- put the mix in a jar with plastic wrap over the top. Wrap an elastic around it to keep it in place. Poke several holes in the top. Fruit flies get in there easily, but have a harder time getting out and are more likely to get stuck in the solution.

I had the same happy accident, but mine was an all but emtpy half gallon bottle of raspberry vodka. Big Tall bottle with narrow neck at the top, near nothing got out once they went in. It was sitting with the other recycling waiting to be dealt with after a camping trip (which means it sat for a few days before I got around to looking at it). Now I save those empty half gallons just for that use, keep one around the compost bin etc.
Reply:You need to get rid of any food source so you should take all of your fruit and put it in the fridge.

Empty your trash and look for any bits of fruit and fruit scraps laying around.

You can make a trap by using apple juice or fruit juice, add some dish soap to break the surface tension. Cover with saran wrap and punch some small holes in wrap, about 1/8" in diameter. They'll drown themselves in the juice.
Reply:clean!

leave a window open to get them out or get some fly paper. start putting fruit in the fridge.
Reply:Good luck.
Reply:Make a trap--get a clean, wide-mouth jar, a piece of paper, and some tape and a piece of cut fruit (like an piece of banana). Make a funnel out of the paper and tape it to secure it. Place the fruit in the jar. Then place the narrow end of the funnel in the jar and secure it with tape. Put the jar in the place where the fruit flies are the most (likely the kitchen). The fruit flies go in, but they can't get out!
Reply:"Fruit Fly/Gnat Trap

Recipe #18753133

This will help take care of those fruit flies that gather around the stuff you have to take out to the compost pile or those bananas you haven't gotten around to baking with yet. The photo I posted (the one with the cherry %26amp; grape tomatoes) shows several fruit flies on the paper already (and a couple are in the vinegar, though you can't see them)--not even three minutes after making the trap!

by anonymous23

1 trap 1 min 1 min prep

3-4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 piece of white paper

1-2 drop liquid dish soap

Pour apple cider vinegar and drop of dish soap into glass or jar.

With the paper, make a cone with a 3/4-1" hole on the bottom. The cone should sit on the glass rim without the tip touching the vinegar. You may have to squeeze-shape the cone a bit to prevent gaps between the paper and rim.

Every day or two, switch out the vinegar. (You'll see when it stops being as potent. The flies/gnats will stop going in.).

EDITED: I tried a new brand of cider vinegar (darker than the first) with this trap and found that it let the fruit flies live longer--by a week or more! A friend suggested adding a drop or two of dish soap, and it killed the fruit flies even faster--in hours--than the first cider vinegar traps had."

This was rated 5 stars, so it must work. Give it a try. :-)

www.recipezaar.com
Reply:Buy an insect bomb and carry it around the house spraying it anywhere you see a fruitfly
Reply:Put out some vinegar in a shallow dish and put a drop or two of dish detergent in it and mix it around. If they like vinegar they will land in it and drown.
Reply:I had the same problem at work and now at home due to my dad making homemade wine with some hand picked grapes that we brought home one day from a farm. Heres an easy, cheap way that you can get rid of them by just using some household items.

In order to get rid of these things, make sure that you don't leave any food out in the open by putting them in containers. Especially with fruits since they rot faster in room temperature and it will give them a place to breed. Fruit flies don't live for very long, but food out in the open is always a good breeding ground for them and you will find them increase exponentially.

Second, you'll need something with a narrow opening; that way they will get in easily but have a harder time getting out. Then put two packets/ two teaspoon of sugar in it, fill a little less than half of it with apple cider vinegar (NOT distilled or it will not work), and a few droplets of dish soap. Make however many you need and put them in the problem areas.

If you don't have anything with a narrow opening, you can use a paper/plastic cup that's been wrapped with saran wrap with a few holes poked in it and a rubber band to keep it in place, or you can put a funnel over a jar. And if you don't have any apple vinegar, anything sweet will do like wine, champaign, beer, even sugary water filled with a piece of fruit; it's what attracted these things to my home in the first place.

Once that it done, CLEAN! While the fruit flies may be gone, it doesn't mean that their eggs aren't. Fruit fly eggs are tough, and if you don't clean the house, you may find them back again ten days later (which is the gestation period of the egg). Use bleach or ammonia to clean your house and a vacuum with a hose to get to those corner areas. Don't forget to take out the garbage since it is also a breeding ground for these things.

Believe me, this works really well. I have done this not that long ago and put it at the source of the problem, and five minutes later it was swarmed with live, and dead, fruit flies. Or if you're really impatient, make the cup version, don't saran wrap it, wait a bit for them to swarm to it, then take a bottle of Raid and spray like crazy. :)

Hope this helps!

Fruit in Puerto Rico called CORAZON?

There is a fruit in Puerto Rico called Corazon that grows on a tall tree.

Does anyone know what it is called in English or by some wild chance what the scientific name of the plant is?

I am trying to get more information about this fruit and am finding it impossible!

Very Frustrating! PLEASE HELP!

Fruit in Puerto Rico called CORAZON?
Custard Apple (Cachiman, Corazon, Jamaican Apple, Snat Apple, Tjé-Bef)

The fruit of the custard apple is heart-shaped with a thin skin that has a pinkish tinge when ripe. The pulp of the fruit is sweet, with a custard-like consistency, and is either eaten plain or used in making ices or fruit drinks.

I hope this is helpful, and good luck.... I am from Puerto Rico and I have seen this fruit.
Reply:This word means "HEART " in English if that helps.

Custard Apple fruit.

Try a google search under Corazon Fruit
Reply:It's called a Custard Apple or Bullock's Heart.

Fruit fly issues!!!?

I'm wondering, because we don't keep fruit or stuff out and we have flys, and fruit flys everywhere!

WHERE ARE THEY COMING FROM!

and how do I get rid?

Fruit fly issues!!!?
We had a nasty case of them last summer. It took quite a while to figure out where they were breeding once they got in the house (probably the usual way with the produce bag.)

Here's what I did:

I scrubbed my garbage disposal with a short, rounded scrub brush with a handle. You have to even get all the muck underneath the flaps by pulling upward as you scrub. Scrub, rinse with the disposal running, scrub (without the disposal running), rinse, etc. Make sure that thing is nice and clean. Then you can spray some bleach cleaner down there and let it sit overnight. Rinse in the morning with the disposal on.

It's a dirty job but it did the trick for us. No more fruit flies! They are as attracted to garbage as they are the fresh fruit on your counter.

I hope that helps! (I also encourage people to clean their disposals on a regular basis that way. It's disgusting to have all that muck build up in there.)
Reply:I had that problem awhile back. Drove me absolutely crazy. They aren't nasty insects but they make you feel nasty. Come to find out my hubby had stuck some potatoes in a cabinet that I NEVER get in. I was so mad lol. Here is a site that I found very helpful. Good luck hun :)

http://www.howtogetridofstuff.com/pest-c...
Reply:fruit flys lay their larvae in drains and spillways where water has a chance of collecting, clean your floors, counters and trash cans with a fairly strong bleach solution and also pour straight bleach down your drains, do this on a regular basis and soon you will see the decline in their population, also try mixing a spray solution in a bottle and spray the air where you see them congregating if all else fails call an exterminator they have this stuff that is an aerosol they spray down drains and it sticks so the larvae don't have a chance of coming to fruition.
Reply:They are attracted to the scent of fruit... %26amp; they can reproduce by themselves, so the number can get pretty scary. to get rid of them, simplly place a cup of red wine out.. They're attracted to the scent of grapes; but the alocholic trait of it, kills them. After a few days, once you look into that cup... it's pretty nasty- there's a ton of fruit flies in there. Hope i helped! =]
Reply:I'm not sure where you live, but the fruit flies and house flies are horrible here in Maryland. It hasn't gotten cold enough yet to reduce the population.

If you place a glass of cider vinegar out overnight, it will attract the fruit flies and they'll drown in it.

Fly tape (disgusting, but effective) will help with the flies. Or you can buy a venus fly trap (we did). It doesn't really catch the flies, but our kids love to catch them and feed it.

Good luck!
Reply:We have that too but we suck them u with the vaccuum! lol!

Fruit diet where can i find it ?

thanks for your help.

Fruit diet where can i find it ?
I have been receiving a lot of e-mail lately about diet. In the past, I was never concerned about what I ate. I just went to the gym, trained hard, and that was the extent of my routine. Not until recently did I realize the power diet has over the way your body looks and performs. I believe that diet is at least 75% of the fitness equation. In this article, I'm going to describe in detail what I have learned about diet during my 12-week transition period.

When to Eat and How Often

This might sound strange, but you have to eat more often to lose fat and gain muscle. During my transition period, I never ate less than 6 meals a day.

? Try to eat every 2 to 3 hours.

? Do not eat complex carbohydrates after 6:00 p.m. or four to five hours before going to bed.

? Try to eat one gram of protein per pound of lean body mass on lifting days and .8 grams of protein per pound of lean body mass on non-lifting days.

? Never eat more than 70 grams of protein in one meal.

Carbohydrates

When I think of carbohydrates, I think of energy. Carbohydrates supply our bodies with the energy it needs to make it through a workout. Without an adequate supply of carbohydrates, the body goes into carbohydrate deprivation. This is called a state of ketosis (meaning our body is using protein as energy). This is not a good state to be in for long because it will rob the body of muscle tissue in an effort to create energy. On the other hand, if too many carbohydrates are consumed, they convert into stored fat. The idea is to consume just enough carbohydrates to make it through our workouts with sufficient energy. I have broken down carbohydrates into these three categories:

? Simple carbs: These are sugars, or quick energy. They are absorbed very quickly into the body. Ex. Anything with sugar, also fruit

? Complex carbs: This is where you get long-term energy for the day. These are long chained carbohydrates that brake down slower, giving us energy over a prolonged period of time. Ex. Oatmeal, potatoes, pasta, rice, breads

? Fibrous carbs: These are things like vegetables. I think of them as roughage in order to stay regular. Make sure you include them in you later meals when you can't eat complex carbs. They are also a good source of vitamins. Ex. Leafy vegetables like lettuce.

Protein

Proteins are the building blocks of our muscles. Without a sufficient amount of protein in our diet, our muscles will not have the raw materials that they need to build up, or even hang on to what is already there.

Net protein utilization: Not all protein is created equal. Different foods are absorbed more than others. For example, egg white protein is absorbed at 88%. That means we get about 9 eggs to our muscles. On the other hand, chicken breast are absorbed at 68%, meaning we get about 7 breasts to our muscles. It is imported to eat a wide verity of protein foods though; no one protein source has all the amino acids we need.

? Whey protein (100%): the best source of whey protein is from protein supplements. It is also absorbed very fast by the body, so it is best to take this when your body needs amino acids quickly: like right after a workout or when you first get up in the morning.

? Egg whites (88%)

? Fish (78%)

? Chicken breast (78%)

? Soy protein: My one bit of advice would be to try and stay away from soy protein. It is not absorbed very well by the body.

Fats

We normally think of fats as being bad. The fact is certain fats are essential to building muscle and carrying out various functions of the body. There are 2 fat types we need to be concerned about:

? Saturated fats: these are the bad fats. Avoid these fats as much as possible. You will find these types of fats mostly in meats

? Unsaturated fats: these are the good fats. They are a good energy source and help us build muscle. You can find from plant oils. Peanuts are also a good source.

Water

Do not under estimate the importance of water! If you are looking to get lean, water will be your best friend. Drink as much as you can and as often as you can. Also, it is very important to drink lots of water when you're eating large amounts of protein to clean urea from the system.

Vitamins %26amp; minerals

As resistance training athletes, we have a greater need for vitamins %26amp; minerals. When we workout and bring blood to our muscles it is important that our blood is full of those essential vitamins %26amp; minerals if we want to grow.

Supplements

Supplements are just that, meaning they are used to supplement your diet, not replace it. Don't ever think of it that way.

Hierarchy of supplements:

I developed this hierarchy of supplements based on what I thought were the most important and also by price.

? 1. Proper diet: Without proper diet you are just wasting money on supplements. Start here! Do not think that supplements are going to do it for you alone.

? 2. Multi-vitamin %26amp; mineral: It is very important to have all your vitamins %26amp; minerals when resistance training. Most of us are lacking in some areas, make it a priority to make this your first supplement.

? 3. Protein powder: It is usually very hard to get all the protein you need from real foods. Powders make it much easier. Also, these powders are absorbed fast by the body making them ideal after workouts or before and after sleep.

? 4. Creatine: This is great for harder workouts. It also makes you muscles hang on to water, giving them a better environment to grow.

? 5. L-glutamine: This is an important amino acid in muscle recovery

? 6. Branch chained amino acid: These are great before and after workouts along with L-glutamine because it gives your muscles all the amino acids it needs to repair and grow.

? 7. ZMA: This helps you release more growth hormone while you sleep, increasing your size and strength.

? 8. Thermogenic: These really help in the fat loss process. They also help you hang on to more muscle while dieting due to the fact you can eat more.

? 9. Meal replacement: Although very expensive, meal replacements make it much more convenient to get some of your meals in. Also, you can get in more meals than if you were to eat only real foods.

"The golden hour"

Remember "The golden hour" because it will make things so much easier for you. "The golden hour" is a window of opportunity we have to get everything we have depleted in our body back in a short amount of time. Think of your muscles as a gas tank: When you workout, you use gas for energy or in this case glucose. After a workout, our muscles are in a unique state. They are able to fill back up very quickly leaving you full for the next workout. If you wait to long, your muscles don't fill back up as easily and the carbs you eat are more likely to be stored as fat. Doing this will also let you take advantage of insulin's muscle building effects from the simple carbs you have ingested. You want to ingest 50-75 grams of simple carbs right after a workout. Also, this is when you want to take your protein shake because it will absorb quickly and supply your muscles with the amino acids that they need.

Insulin

This is a very complicated subject, but all we need to know is that insulin can help us build muscle or can make us fat depending on the timing. Insulin is released by the pancreas in response to elevated blood sugar levels. We can achieve a high blood sugar level by ingesting simple carbs. Like "the golden hour" we have a window of opportunity to take advantage of the muscle building effects of the insulin without getting fat. We have about 4 or 5 hours after we workout to take advantage of insulin. If we take in too many simple carbs out of this window, we are very likely to store fat.

Cheat day

The theory behind the cheat days is you take one day every 2 weeks to eat anything you want and actually get leaner. It might sound crazy, but it worked for me. When you eat low carbs for a time for body begins to think it is not getting all the food it needs (because your not storing any fat) and begins to slow down your metabolism. When you bombard your body with food on that one day, it tricks your body into thinking it has all it needs and speeds your metabolism back up. I can tell you from experience, every day after a cheat day I felt leaner and looked better.

Ketosis

This is when your body uses protein for energy. This happens when we have too few carbs in the body or when we over train. I went into the state of ketosis for only the last week of my 12-week transition for a couple of reasons: (1) I wanted all of my muscles to shrink down so when I carbed back up, my skin would be tighter. (2) When you go into ketosis it seems to bring the water out from under the skin. Don't go into this state to loose fat. Without carbs your body can not burn fat effectively. You will loose weight rather quickly, but only because you don't have as much glycogen in the muscle. Also, you are simply loosing water. Remember that proteins are the building blocks for muscle and that means they are fair game for energy when in the state of ketosis. I would not recommend going into this state unless you are trying to get into a super ripped state for a short amount of time, like for a bodybuilding contest.
