Fruit cake for Xmas?

Did anyone actually get fruitcake for Xmas? Does anyone actually even LIKE fruit cake? EWWWWWW I think its absolutely ickey!!! Im all for cake- chocolate-strawberry- JUST NOT nasty hard as a brick fruit cake!

Fruit cake for Xmas?
well, its traditional... since chickens dont lay eggs in the winter(real chickens not the ones they have laying all the time) the only way the colonists could have cake for christmas was to make it with preserved fruits(the candied fruit in the cake) nuts and eggs months before christmas and pour brandy on it every week or so until christmas, that way they could celebrate in style...

but im not a fan of it....
Reply:My brother gave one to my mom as a gift along with some other gifts from the swiss colony .... he makes alot of money so I don't know why he cheeeeeped out on mom???
Reply:We need a Fruitcake for Christmas so that your Noche Buena will be lots of Fun.
Reply:My dog loved my grandmothers fruitcake..

and when it poops it forms into a sculpture of my grandmother..
Reply:Fruitcake is great, especially if it's got a heap of hard liquor in it. Yum!
Reply:To each their own preferences. I'm a fan of good fruitcakes with coffee or tea though I would not want it every day. It's a cultural thing. Would you like the same type of cake every day?
Reply:Ewee. Fruit cake
Reply:A long time ago my aunt used to give us one at Christmas. I thought it was disgusting and suggested that she make a house of it (hard and nasty!) But since I have gotten older... I like it when its made by someone that knows what they are doing... and only in small pieces with a cup of tea.. btw its not always hard as a rock! The good ones are moist enough to eat... Its an "acquired" taste... Although most of the ones you buy SHOULD be used as bricks in a house that's for sure!
Reply:I didn't get any fruitcake, but I like a good one. I usually make my own from the Fruitcake Cockaigne recipe in 'Joy of Cooking'. I've never had any complaints when I use them as gifts..
Reply:Unfortunately, most people do not get fruitcake for Xmas any more (except possibly for Swiss Colony or other online sites). Real fruitcake is made by hand months before Christmas, continually soaked in some kind of alcohol (brandy or other spirits depending on your culture and recipe) - that's why it should NEVER be hard! By the time Christmas arrives, it is no longer a 'cake', but a slice of fruit/nut laden dessert more like a candy than cake. Anyone who has ever had a slice of real, properly prepared fruitcake would NEVER describe it as a 'brick' - and it can contain both chocolate (chunk chips) and strawberries (dried and re-moistened).
Reply:No No No. My aunt always sends me one around Christmas and I pass it on to someone I know who likes it!
Reply:Yeah we had fruit cake for Christmas, I don't think Christmas would be the same with out it.
Reply:Thats enough to make me barf up everyting in my stomach LOL gross stuff

Reply:I can't fruitcake anymore....if I ever get one, I'll throw it outta window!!!
Reply:We got fruit cake from a family friend but nobody actually eats it.
