anybody have any ideas on why our building has fruit flies in the men's rooms? Yep, good old Drosophila melanagastor - same as Bio 102 lab. (And save yourself the trouble - don't say because there are fruits there.)
Fruit flies in the men's room?
It's because urine (especially if one or more of your employees has diabetes) has sugars in it - as does fruit. Fruit flies like sugar (not fruits).

Reply:Well, if they are what I think they are... do you have showers in the men's room? I know up at college we had a bunch of knat-y looking things because the shower area would get very hot and humid.
Reply:I don't know if these are actually fruit flies, but I know in the bathroom in the school I work in, there would be these little annoying fly-type things, and I was told from the custodian that water had to poured down the drain in the floor. I can't remember why, but the whole idea of those bugs being in the bathroom really grosses me out....
