Does drinking Fruit Juices like Tropicana, Minute Maid etc result in weight gain and fat accumulation on bodies? I've heard people say its better to eat fruit than drink juice which contain lot of sugar.
Please let me know your opinions. Thanks
Does Fruit Juices increase Weight and add Fat?
Yes they can. Your body burns fat first because that is the most efficient use of the energy. If your body gets all the energy it need from fat, it will convert the sugars in the fruit juice to fat for later use.
Reply:It is a fact that fruit juices contain a lot of added sugar. So drinking a lot may lead to weight gain. It is better to eat whole fruits because they have more fiber which is good for you.
Reply:I know Tropicana uses lower quality soft drink concentrate, Not tried Minute Maid yet, but I heard South African juices are kind of OK, Florida Natural Is Not That OK, and the best option is to make Norwalk Juicers into a consumer-friendly mass-marketable item.

Reply:well, like those examples, they are actually okay for you, but not the best. If they are loaded w/ sugar, then don't drink them (they might be worse than some sodas). If you get welch's juce, that is loaded with preservatives and sugar, the last time i checked (I don't drink it anymore). Some other juices may lead to weight gain also because sugar stores as fat in your abdomen, making your belly look like a "beer belly." Sugar also stores in your hips, making them look bigger and wider. If you drink all natural juices, then they won't lead to weight gain. I drink martinelli's apple juice... all natural, no preservatives, all fresh apples from california... I also drink newman's own grape juice, that is also all natural, nothing but grapes... It is not always great to eat fruit all the time, and an all natural fruit juice here and there isn't bad (it also depends on what fruit you eat, apples, oranges, etc. are good for you, and if you eat bananas, pears, and grapes, not as good for you if you eat them all the time).
Reply:Fruit juices should be 100% fruit juice with no added sugar to have any semblence of nutritional value. Eating the fruit is recommended because it can be more satisfying than drinking juice, and can be more nutritious. Make sure that you keep your juice consumption within the recommended guidelines so that you aren't inadvertently consuming more calories than intended!
Reply:Anything in excess can increase weight. Be sure to eat a healthy, balanced diet and get plenty of exercise. Weight gain has more to do with lack of exercise for most people.
Reply:Anything with artificial sugar supplements has the potential to increase weight. However, 100% fruit juice is okay to drink.
I always buy a variety of 100% fruit juices because it easily helps to make up the five proportions of fruit and veg that we should consume each day.
I'm not familiar with Tropicana etc. Just look at the packaging and see how much fat the juice contains.
Reply:I watched my Mom balloon up in weight, she could not figure out why she had gained some. She said she had not changed her eating habits. Well after about 3 outing we had gone on, I had noticed that she had continually had a bottle of orange juice with her. Her she had read how good Vitim C was for the body and she had been feeling sluggish, so she decided to start drinking alot ot of juice! Well we talked about it and looked at the sugar content and low and behold the juice was the culprit that caused the gain! She quit the juice and the 15 pounds she had gained quickly disappeared!
So in my option, juice can sabatosh a persons healthy weight quickly! They add so much sugar to the stuff it can loose its original good taste! I think I will stick with Real fruit off the stem!
Reply:Eating the fruit will be better for you, if only for the fiber. You can gain weight if you drink a lot of fruit juice, for the same reasons you will if you if you eat too much food of any kind--excess calories will eventually be converted to fat if not burned off before.
