Where can you buy fruit trees that are mature and ready to fruit?

Some friends of mine have lost all their fruit trees - apple, pear, damson, greengage. They are practically self sufficient and need to replace these quickly with trees that will fruit next year. I've heard you can buy mature trees but can't find any info on the web. Does anyone know of where they could find some?

Go to an apple orchard and ask if they will sell you a tree or two. Then find a company (orchard may know of one) that has a truck mounted tree spade. They can dig the tree roots and all and move it to the location of your choice. Keep in mind this will be expensive but it will get a tree that bears a substantial amount of fruit next year.

Hope these help you.
Reply:local nursery, you need trees about 7-10 years old and they will give a crop next year.

don't buy them on-line, you'll want to inspect them for balance, they will be about 8 feet tall. Make sure you get a decent root stock of the type you want ( dwarft, semi, bush etc ) and check if they are self fertile or need companions. A decent nursery will know all about this.

You will probably want to support the branches as they will be quite weak for the first few years

local nursery - expect to pay about £20 with some great advice, garden centre expect to pay about £40 with a pretty carpark and nice carpet tiles....

We planted 26 trees in 2004, they fruited the next year with a decent crop.
