my 8.5 month old has never liked fruit purees and fruity puddings she seems to find them too sweet! how can i give her fruit? i have tried her with mashed banana but no joy! i may cut small pieces up of banana and try her as a finger food! what other fruit can they have? i know they cant have strawberrys, and im afraid apple is too hard (she only has 2 teeth)! Im not too concerned but i would like her to eat a bit of fruit! any suggestions?
thanks xx
How can i add fruit to my 8.5 month olds diet?
The first thing I thought of was apple sauce but then I saw your extended question. I have mixed purees with oatmeal to add flavor. I have cut grapes in half, tried strawberry pieces and even mango. This baby loved the mango but nothing else. Each child is so different. Fruit is important, but perhaps you can compensate by giving your child real fruit juice mixed with water. Does your baby like something she can handle? Maybe a bananna won't work, but try cutting a chunk of soft mango or watermelon and supervise and see how it goes.
Reply:U can boil the apple (boiled apple will not be hard) and mash it and add it to Curd rice(if u have started giving) or Food products and give it .In the same way u can add banana .
The baby should not know that fruits are added as part of food , otherwise they will not eat before tasting it .
If ur baby is using bottle for drinking milk ..at least for a time u can add banana in the milk and try to feed ur baby with spoon .
Reply:Melon, mango, grapes cut in half, small chunks of banana, oranges. All would be fine if left in big enough chunks so that she can pick them up and eat them.
Make sure you wash the outside of the melon thoroughly before cutting it.
IMO, soft finger food is more than fine at this age, it is great.
Reply:To give her a differnt taste other than sweet...
1-Try to add some yogurt with pureed or cubed fruits..
2-try to blend banana with her formula or some yogurt..it will make a great smoothie..You can feed her in a sippy or a straw..
3-If she can eat muffins then you can try to add some blended fruits to the batter..(Mine had muffins at 8 months..)
4-If nothing works..try to add milk with 100%fruit + vegetable juice..Milk or yogurt will help reduce the too much sweetnes in the fruits..
Hope this helps

Reply:Be happy of what you have, live while you are still alive.
Reply:Cuisinart / blender
Reply:puree it in with a similar taste she's already had.
Reply:Try sweet potato. It isn't too sweet unless you want to add something to it. You can mix it with a little bit of mango too. My baby loved it.
Reply:Why dont you try orange segments, there kinda soft, and she might be able to eat them with only two teeth. Try it.
Reply:Try melon.
Its not as sweet, bitter or tangy.
Reply:try mixing soft meshed fruits in her diet. Example papaya? But pls note on the quantity as her immuse system might not take it.
