Hi my dog loves fruit, grapes especially.I don't feed them in excess maybe one or two at a time .He also loves bananas. But a friend has told me that fruit is bad for a dogs digestion. I have never heard this..Is it true are are they just talking rubbish..
Is fruit bad for my dog..?
Definitely stop feeding your dogs grapes, you are giving them a toxic substance.
Here is a site that lists the plants, vegetables and fruits that are toxic to the canine species:

All fruit isn't bad, just certain types. My dogs love fruit too. My lab used to eat the mangoes that fell in my back yard.
Reply:belive it or not, my dog has an eating disorder, he is 2yrs old now and never touches dog food. he has been brought up recomended by the vet on fruit and veggies and rice. he is very fit, and healthy.
Reply:some it maters
Reply:My dog eats anything that touches the floor. My family is a BIG fruit eater, grapes,apples,peaches,pears,strawberrys,... lot of times we give him the core of the apples, peaches and pears. He is totally fine except for his age!!!(6 years old in human years)But we have been giving fruit all the time through his life...so I think its ok...but I have a Golden Retriever so it might be diffrent from your dog by the breed.- Hope I helped!!!
Reply:hi. well fruit is good for us.and my dog loves cue cumber i put it on my eye's at night and he takes it off. no grapes though.when making a meal, and i cut carrots, he knows and he has to have some, raw carrots, are very good, no choc, mind, unless its for dog's. o.k. hon. coral
Reply:I don't know about fruits, but I'm sure that chocolate can kill him
Reply:grapes will kill your dog
Reply:Fruit, in general is not bad. Too much sugar can be, though.
grapes and raisin ARE bad for dogs, please don't give them grapes or raisins.

Reply:My dog is potty about raspberries, strawberries, apples and pears. My vet says its fine. Here's a tip - if ever you have to give your dog pills, buy some dried apricots, make a slit on one and hide the pills that way. My dog was virtually telling me that it was time for his pill!
Reply:Rubbish as far as I know. I had a cat that loved banana %26amp; sometimes the odd mushroom or two. Many pet foods have vegetables added ( you know the pricey posh kind) so its unlikely to do any harm
Reply:WELL JUST ONCE IN A WHILE..LIKE HUMANS CAN ONLY EAT SUGAR ONCE IN A WHILE OR THEY WILL GET REALLY FAT..MY ADVICE IS FOR YOU TO GO ASK YOUR DOCTOR..IF YOU DECIDE TO GIVE YOUR DOG FRUIT MAKE SURE THAT YOU TAKE THE SEEDS OUT....ALSO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR DOG HAS ALOT OF WATER...
Reply:Grapes are actually toxic for dogs and should be avoided. Other fruits are generally OK though too much may give them gas or other digestive upsets. I used to have dogs that ate the peaches that fell off our tree without incident.
Reply:hey it is essential that a dogs diet contained
*vegetable(carrot, cabbage, beans, peas,beets)
*meat( beef, red meat, liver,no chicken, eggs,no pork, * fish *)
*dairy( milk, soy milk, biscuits without sugar)
*grains( corn,maize,wheat, rice, serials)
*spices( no salt, turmeric powder, no pepper, no chilli)
*fruits( al fruits, apple, orange, banana, grapes, ect)
*dry fruits ( if they like it)-but no cashews
take care of that cutie

Reply:if he likes it give it to him
Reply:Grapes and Raisins are actually poisonous to dogs, and bananas aren't very good for the digestion avoid most fruits. Also, stay away from macedamia nuts, avocados, chocolate, and onions. Garlic is okay!
Reply:Grapes are a no-no. I'm not sure why. But log onto the ASPCA website, and search 'grapes', They'll tell you DON'T give your dog grapes. Or raisins. Or anything else made from grapes.
Kiwi, melons (all kinds), apples, pears, strawberries seem to be fine. My dog eats them and is very healthy. I don't think it's bad for his digestion.
Reply:some fruit is fine for dogs. Mine love banana, mandarines and apple. Given 1/2 a chance they would gorge themselves on grapes, but they are poisonous to dogs. Anything that is a derivative of a grape is also bad, ie raisins etc. They affect the kidneys and in large quantities can cause kidney failure.
Reply:fruit is actually good for them it is a known fact if they will eat it that is
Reply:umm...you might want look here before you do ...there is even a quiz for you to see if what you are doing is ok or not.......

Reply:My Irish setters have all loved apples and pears and Rosie will almost fight you for an orange.
Reply:Yep.
Reply:my dachshund eats all fruit and vegetables and is fine. Better fruit than carbs or sugars.

see for yourself.
Qick edit.
Apple pips are also very toxic to dogs!! so no apple cores.
Reply:I have seen a dog eat bananas on a daily basis and be perfectly healthy. Give a chav fruit, and he/she will probably also have a sore stomach because he/she is not used to fresh food.
Reply:Remember that onions and chocolate are toxic to all animals, I think, other than people. Dogs do well with fruits and vegetables. A couple of grapes are probably harmless, especially if you haven't seen any problems. Watch out for choking on them. My dog hates them.
Reply:My dog is 3 and has been given small amounts of fruit everyday. It hasnt done him any harm.
Reply:hi i asked my vet the same question and told me that fruits and vegetables are not bad for dogs except for grapes so becarefull, also raisens and onions and you can pretty much feed them everything else, i have a male pitbull puppy hes 6 months old and he likes bananas, apples and carrots.
