i'm planning a luau themed party and came across some recipes and one of the ingredients is lilikoi, or yellow passion fruit. Could someone please tell me where I can buy yellow passion fruit? Can I go to any market or does it need to be a specialty store? Has anyone ever bought yellow passion fruit? If so, where have you found it (what specific store)? Thank you!!
Yellow Passion Fruit?
I have seen it in several grocery stores - Albertsons, Winn Dixie, Publix, and I think I've seen it in Wal-Mart. I don't buy it because I'm allergic to it :(
Reply:I haven't seen yellow passionfruit in the states, but my local new season carries the "regular" dark purple kind. Its a completely acceptable substitute for lilikoi. Look for somewhat shriveled fruits, which are ripe.
Beautiful stuff.
Reply:you need the fresh fruit or can you use frozen juice of the fruit? if u need the fruit itself try Whole Foods, Gelsons, or any upscale market, if u can use the frozen puree call a gourmet food wholesaler (one who sells to restaurants) even though u don't have a restaurant they will sell to u, usually a cash account/will call, if ur in the LA area Surfas on National and Venice has frozen lilikoi puree.
Reply:all passion fruits turn yellow
it is a hardish shelled fruit ,that grows on a vine, with a very acidy pulp inside ,that is full of seeds .
you have to add sugar ,the taste is very strong
there are some green ones or that only turn half yellow
got lots in the garden ,they climb very hich to the top of the trees
and every so often .when they are ripe, they drop to the ground ,like a slowmotion rain of passion fruit
if you get them fresh
put the pulp in the liquidiser with a lot of water
turn on the liquidiser for a short time
then siff the black seeds
and with a spoon grind the pulp through the siff
add sugar to taste, about 10 passion fruit makes 5 litres of drink ,
the taste is very concentrated
Reply:fresh passion fruit is very hard to find...try Whole Foods or Wild Oaks food stores...if all else fails, get canned, also get some canned lichee nuts...I do lots of dinners that way...U can get some fresh figs, and dont forget real coconut water...real papaya is good too
Reply:i've never seen it in a regular store, i would try a specialty produce store like whole foods maybe or henry's or an international grocer
