Identify this tropical fruit?

This fruit is growing one the east coast of central florida. The leaves look like a rubber tree in shape but are much thinner and kind of remind me of mango leaves. The tree is very very tall. The fruit are dark purple on the outside. very sweet with a slightly astringint taste but not enough to make them undesireable. about 1 to 1.5 inches long and shaped like a pear. There is a single seed inside. Any Idea what It could be. I have looked on tropical fruit websites and can not find it. Also I don't think it's toxic or poisionous or I'd be dead or sick.

Identify this tropical fruit?
From what u have described it appears to me that it could be black plum - Syzygium cuminii (Linn.) Skeels / Eugenia jambolana Lam. (Myrtaceae).

Except for the shape of the fruit. I have a dbt abt it. Coz plums are not pear shaped. they are oblong. variation may cause them to be pear shaped bt not generally.
