Carbs in Fruit eg, apple, banana?

Hi there, i was looking up nutrition info, and came accross the info on fruits such as apples and bananas. They seem to have a lot of Carbs in them.

On my diet i usually eat 1 banana and 2 apples everyday, but 1 apple has: 19g carbs, and a banana has: 27g carbs.

Thats a total of: 73g carbs just from the 3 pieces of fruit + whatever else i eat in a day.

Since i started eating this its slowed down my weight loss, should i stop eating these fruits?

How many carbs should i take in a day?

Thanks in advance!

When people use the term 'carbs', they're usually talking about the complex carbohydrates found in bread, pasta, and some vegetables ( usually white ) such as potatoes. Simple carbohydrates, such as those found in fruit, are typically referred to as a sugar. The white table sugar is glucose and the sugar found in fruits are fructose. You might hear of some one that is lactose intolerant which simply means their small intestines cannot assimulate the sugars in milk. The difference between complex carbohydrates and simple carbohydrates ( simple sugars ) is that it takes the body much longer to break the molecular chain of complex carbohydrates thereby giving longer energy supplies. That's why marathoners will eat pasta the day before a run. The simple carbohydrates can be converted into energy almost immediately. That's why runners will eat apples at the end of a run so that they can immediately restore their energy levels. All simple sugars get converted into muscle glycogen which is the energy stored inside your muscles.

All this to say. Eat fruit even if you're dieting. Moderate the intake of long chain carbohydrates such as pasta. You should still eat pasta, potatoes, etc but don't over do it.
Reply:low carb diets dont work...going low carb or low fat is a myth...its the overall calories u consume! so count the calories! carb, sugar, and fat junkies are full of crap...u need to watch overall calories(eat atleast 1400-1500) ...different fruits and vegies are low or high carb...but they are the good(complex) carbs! carbs give u energy and keep ur body from eating away ur muscle. healthy carbs THAT U NEED are fruits, vegies, and whole wheat breads/pastas/oatmeal/brown rice. so dont give up the fruit!!! u need it!

people who lose on low carb are only losing cuz they are restricting calories(u should also never feel hungry either when trying to lose weight)

the only carbs u need to cut are the bad carbs found in white items and dessert items or items high in added sugar
Reply:My friend did sure slim and was required to eat fruit. In the morning it was an apple with low fat yoghurt, not sure what other fruit was consumed during the day. Fruit does of course have natural sugars. Fruit can be a great source of fibre so be aware of cutting it down too much if you are not really having any other food that is giving you fibre. Try not to eat carbs in the evening and if you find you cant do this avoid carbs after 6.00pm. Keep your protien levels up and if not already doing so protien drinks are great - just watch what you mix it with!
