Why Does My Mouth Get Itchy After Eating Fruit?

I used to not experience this problem, but within the past year, I noticed that my mouth becomes itchy after consuming fruit. Fruit, NOT vegetables. I do wash all fruit that I eat, before I eat it, so I don't understand what this could be. My gums, my tongue, and my throat get itchy after eating apples, plums,....I guess all fruit that has skin that you don't ordinarily peel off. What is in the skin of fruit that is making my tongue itchy? Should I refrain from eating fruits without peeling the skins, just in case something worse can come from eating it (throat closing)?



Note: This is all happening within the past year; When I was younger, I never used to have this problem.

You have an allergic reaction to the acid in the fruits..you are not always born being allergic to things, sometimes it will just happen after a while or so. Go to the doctor to make sure this is what that is though. We are not doctors-what doctor would be on Yahoo Answers?
Reply:Be careful!! that's definitely an allergy!!! allergies are veryyyy dangerous, they can kill you in a few minutes!!..... some allergies to certain fruits occur when you star exercising yourself.... try testing which fruits cause you allergy by eating a small amount of it, if it itches a little bit you will know that you have to avoid it..... try to keep medicines for allergies at home for any emergency.... you can also visit your doctor so you can have a professional orientation.
Reply:Weird. Sounds like you have developed some sort of allergy to the skin of fruits. You can go to the doctor and they can do a test to see what exactly it is that you are allergic to. In the meantime I suggest you start peeling your fruit.
Reply:Sounds like an allergy. You really should go to an allergist to be tested. Some foods have trace amounts of things in them that you don't even realize are there. Better to check and then to read labels if you are allergic.

Reply:You could be developing a food allergy to something in the fruit or wherever the fruits are coming from(if you buy your fruits at the same place) even though you wash them could still contain a pesticide on it. And that is causing a reaction to you. A food allergy can occur at anytime in your life even if you never had that problem before. My suggestion would be to see a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.
